The Modern Library's "The Philosophy of Plato" did pretty right by me, as an amateur looking to get oriented in the classics while riding the bus.

Oxford Press' A Very Short Introduction series is pitched just right. And I'm very fond, still, of The Great Philosophers: An Introduction of Western Philosophy by Bryan Magee. Based on the BBC television series, it's all dialogue.
