Curious to know, I’d heard “lemming” used in a semi derogatory way, since “a person who unthinkingly joins a mass movement, especially a headlong rush to destruction” is the dictionary definition. It seems to be the first thing to come to mind as to what you’d call a Lemmy user....
Pause to screen: You can put the entire world on pause at will, but your body will also freeze along with others, with only your mind remaining active to think and resume back time....
Servers cost money to upkeep. So owners of big instances could start posting, ads, pin them and ban other users posting ads or delete their posts. This is obviously almost the worst case scenario. I feel that it wouldn’t happen in the near future, as Lemmy grows to become a larger platform. I haven’t seen this type of ads on...
It was fun when it lasted without the gatekeeping, but I’ve found some comments that are from the gatekeepers of Reddit. I avoided some subs over there because of it. Have you found any gatekeeping going on in the communities you peruse? If it’s going to happen, I hope it doesn’t happen too often.
Call me a worry wart, but after seeing the damage sustained to Fury 325 at Carowinds on TikTok just now, I’m convinced roller coasters ain’t it. Like damn, the track was sagging and the pillars were swaying.
On Reddit I generally didn’t read attached articles. I’d developed a pretty good intuition where the article title, website and top comments could tell me all I needed to know (And reading the source normally confirmed this)...
This morning, I had free time. As usual, opened my Apollo app, only to be greeted by the loud reminder that I am cut off from the community I have lurked, posted and lurked in almost a decade....
I remember when I use to get excited to sign into Reddit on Sync or Boost and scroll for hours responding and commenting with my fellow dorks geeks nerds weirdos and the like and then it was taken from us. I say us because we built that monster up just for it to let us down and stab us in the back. I am on Lemmy putting my roots...
you’re gonna have to hear me out on this one....
My sister and I were having dinner and reminiscing about old movies we’d watched as kids. We got to talking about one and could only remember a single scene, nothing else. We both googled and googled and FINALLY FOUND IT. Then found out it was free to watch on YouTube. Watched it tonight after dinner and it surprisingly held...
Does everybody thinks that this migration is gonna change peoples mind about not using Reddit anymore ? Here’s hoping.
& I’m doing pretty good! The wefwef app has done a great job of recreating the Apollo experience and has made it a lot easier to not want to go and download the Reddit app. The more active it gets here, the easier it’ll be. How are you guys doing so far? Have you found an App for Lemmy that you prefer the most yet?
Just kind of realized we may never see u/SchnoodleDoodleDo again without going back to Reddit....
Just curious to see what my fellow lemmings are using. :)...
Edit: **I have nothing against Lemmy or its developers. I enjoy the platform and have been a user for a long time (despite this account being created only yesterday)**I was on lemmy.ml and Beehaw before this Just sharing for anyone who cares. I have nothing against Lemmy and understand that the software can be used regardless of...
This week has been a time of change for many of us. Likewise, change is something that is inevitable in all our lives. In this way, what changes or events did you go through that affected your outlook on life or yourself?
It was a bit awkward at first, not gonna lie, but I pushed through and ordered a tall iced caramel macchiato. And it did not disappoint! The flavor was great and was surprised that there was no sour aftertaste, very mild.
Sometimes I feel anxious talking to people and telling them about my interests in life. Thinking deep down inside my head that most people will be annoyed by what I had to say and just shun me. Especially when it's a jump from one topic to another that has nothing to do with the previous. I was always told to give to a...
In other words, what's a song that you can listen 100 times back to back and still enjoy it. For me, it's Door by Caroline Polachek; the song manages to be the perfect balance between catchiness and entrancement to not get tiring....
I always wanted a cat. I like the stupid little furballs. Can't help it. I know it's irrational and expensive and environmentally suboptimaland you're basically just setting yourself up for inevitable heartbreak, but when they bump their dumb soft heads into me I melt like a chocolate bar on the dash of a black car in the August...
Reddit was so combative at times, it felt like I was getting into arguments with people on there a lot. I like seeing Lemmy grow and new people join, and I just wanna enjoy it and not argue with people about stupid shit. Let's just all have fun!
I feel so proud of him and how hard he has worked! Especially during the pandemic, I saw how hard he struggled to adapt to doing school online. Seeing him having accomplished this is truly to motivating for me as I'll be starting high school soon. What was high school like for you guys?
Thought it might be a good way to spur some basic conversations! Introduce yourself in the comments!...
Hello and welcome to Lemmy.world's CasualConversation community! We're excited to have you here, especially as many of you may be migrating over from Reddit due to recent changes....
