Knock on wood, but it looks like the latest pre-release of WSL fixes a good bit of the audio issue! Or maybe it was just me getting rid of Fedora and just using basic Ubuntu for WSL, supported by Microsoft and all that. Now let me tell y'all, getting Emacs and Emacspeak working was a pain in my big fat butt! Had to install libasound*, TCL*, TK, TK-dev*, ffmpeg, mpg123, m-player, and probably some other things I'm not thinking about. Oh and build-essential. An asterisk means the glob character, that and everything that comes after those letters. Ugh. We just need Doctor Raman to make a Linux distro with Emacspeak preinstalled and ready to go lol

devinprater,

Now, is it worth it?

Squidward (leaning over a huge stack of crabby paddies): Fine! I admit it! I love crabby paddies!"

khronos,

@devinprater He hasn’t done that yet but if you want a distribution that already exists that has this in it, check out the Slackware international project. That distribution has what you are requesting.

bgtlover,

@devinprater wait what the hell? I don't have to do that on arch, that sounds like way overkill

devinprater,

@bgtlover Maybe, but that's how I finally got it to work. But then I'm using Outloud and not ESpeak, so maybe that's contributing to all that I had to install. I may not even had to install every single one of those, but shoot it works now so the unknowable magic is over for that part lol

bgtlover,

@devinprater outloud? what's that? there's only one emacspeak as far as I know, hmm...

devinprater,

@bgtlover Oh, Voxin (viavoice outloud (Eloquence)). That's the speech server.

bgtlover,

@devinprater ok, very interesting, I didn't know of that one, I usually use the normal emacspeak, but it doesn't offer outloud or even speech dispatcher, for that matter...as far as I know anyway. Still though, I have a long way to go before I can say I kinda know how to use emacs

devinprater,

@bgtlover It's still Emacspeak just uses Voxin server. Emacspeak comes with a few servers, for like ESpeak and Voxin and Dectalk and such.

bgtlover,

@devinprater hmm, interesting. I got voxin with speech dispatcher support, is that good? Yep, it seemns I gotta read some documentation. And also, dectalk, you say? hmmmmmm, the software one, or those big clunky hardware synths?

devinprater,

@bgtlover The software one. And yeah, the voxin for speech dispatcher works fine, as long as it's the Eloquence, not Vocalizer.

bgtlover,

@devinprater yeah, it's eloquence. Hmm, ok, didn't know dectalk was on linux before the source got leaked to github and all other places imaginable, cool!
