    @passthejoe even better, I think you can just do it in one go:

    $ rpm-ostree override --apply-live remove firefox firefox-langpacks

    @passthejoe Silverblue with Flatpaks for literally everything that can be is basically my approach with Beyond; I love Fedora for pushing out a mostly untainted GNOME and a solid base, but I don't really care for the RPM/dnf ecosystem. So as much as possible, I'd love to just lean on Flatpak/Flathub, especially as that's where GNOME is publishing their apps directly, anyway.

    @passthejoe I know at least two reasons why to use the RPM Firefox:

    1. it runs on Wayland while the Flathub Firefox defaults to X11.
    2. it supports kerberos.

    @sesivany @passthejoe Arguably, the RPM Firefox also goes through more integration and general QA/testing.

    If Meta would get behind AV1 this problem would solve itself.

    Force the Flathub Firefox to run with Wayland with this change in Flatseal:

    I already switched back to Xwayland. Not sure it's ready for prime-time just yet.

    But it's nice to be able to toggle back and forth.

    @passthejoe @mattdm @sesivany I think we may have just uncovered another advantage to the native rpm version of Firefox in Fedora then 😉

    @mattdm @vwbusguy @sesivany @passthejoe No clue about what might be different in Fedora, but I've been forcing the Firefox Flatpak to run Wayland Only for well over a year here on openSUSE,and it's been fine.

  • Aman9das,

    @passthejoe We all are mostly using Universal Blue images, afterall if you need to make obvious edits to the immutable system it defeats the purpose.

  • Aman9das,

    @passthejoe nope it provides rpm Firefox with all the codecs already, I'm using the native Firefox myself. It has all the hardware acceleration goodies 😊

    I was trying to approach the problem a different way, but yeah #UniversalBlue has taken care of everything.
