olutukko,

I feel your pain. I had to protect all my plants because our kittens are trying to est them all. my chiki plant is noe on top of a speaker, my salvia plants are behind a cardboard plant, my tobacco seedling are growing in a clear plastic box with sone holes for air. all the houseplants are out of reach in shelves. I had to get rid of from almost all of my house plants because they were toxic for cats and too big to put out of reach (and no space)

I’m about to get more shelves so I can put more plants there because currently there is not a lot of room for them.

I really liked your other cat

I stick iron wires into every pot to form an umbrella, then coil threads around them to form a dense net, to stop my cats from destroying my plants. :|

Pacmanlives,

Cats are always the asshole in this situation. Dogs generally are good

Coreidan,

So are humans

SchmidtGenetics,

The dog got into plenty of stuff when younger, she’s 90% blind, and mainly deaf as well, so she doesn’t go looking for much trouble anymore.

No dog has ever chewed on something they weren't supposed to, right?

ThrowawaySobriquet,
catloaf,

I’ve sprayed mine with that extremely bitter anti-nibbling spray you can get. It’s very effective, and hasn’t seemed to harm the plants. I wouldn’t use it on any parts you’re going to eat, though, because it really does taste terrible. I assume those are going to be moved outside, so it should be fine this far out from them producing anything.

SchmidtGenetics,

My dog loved licking the bitter apple off the furniture, but she’s not the culprit.

I’m not overly concerned I’ve got clear lids I can use, but I also have more starts than I can use for partly this reason.

Spray bottle seems to work well for behavior training, but they are allowed all over that table, so hard to punish for just staring at the plants haha.

catloaf,

The one I use isn’t bitter apple, it’s mostly some kind of grapefruit. Like if you took only the bad parts of grapefruit, none of the good ones, and dialed it up. And it sticks around too, so if you get it on your finger you might find out hours later.

My cat is smart enough to know what “no” means, and I can tell when he’s thinking about doing something he’s not supposed to (attack the blinds, jump on the counter, eat the plants).

SchmidtGenetics,

Interesting, my dog loves warhead candies, so I don’t think it matters haha.

Oh they definitely know when they are doing something they aren’t supposed to, but of course they push the limits when no one is looking. I came downstairs and it was done overnight, so nothing to be done with that one.
