ThrowawaySobriquet,

If you’ve ever lived with a bird, you know the size waned but the terror only grew

ThrowawaySobriquet,

Man, it has been a long time since the Internet has made me say “oh my god” out loud

Once More, With Feeling (lemmy.world)

Daikon goes boom. Pak choi is on the way up with it. Gotta solve my soil issues before I put these down. Speaking of soil issues, I probably gotta start over on my squash bed. Nothing looks too happy in there and instead of watching it die a slow death, I’m just gonna direct sow everything after I get some amendments in with...

ThrowawaySobriquet,

One side of my sad squash arch

Gotta pull the mulch back and add some good stuff otherwise

ThrowawaySobriquet,

I usually wouldn’t be doing anything inside at all by now, but some stuff slipped away on me

Figured I’d give myself a leg-up while I spot-ammend over the week. Usually radishes and spinach go together for me and are direct-sow

Additional fun fact: diakon are my go-to for clay busting over large areas. Grow them as cover then just till them in when you start bed prep

I absolutely love milkshakes. I just wish they loved me more.

Is this what god feels like?

@showerthoughts

ThrowawaySobriquet,

We are all malted milkballs in god’s regretful milkshake

ThrowawaySobriquet,

That’s exactly what they’re doing. Carrots don’t bolt til their second year. I let a few get huge one year and the next I got like a pound of seeds off them. Thought I’d hit the jackpot. Found out the hard way why you don’t collect seeds from F1’s

ThrowawaySobriquet,

I see some nasturtium planted in with your brassica, there. Any other interplanting?

ThrowawaySobriquet,

It’s more like the floor is a belt sander

Any idea what happened to the second strawberry pot? (lemmy.world)

Both pots were started at the same time from the same batch of strawberry starts. They should have the same soil box. Both grew vigorously last spring/summer and got visited by deer in the fall. Both bounced back pretty well before winter set in. The left pot is very happy, the right… Not so much. I do recall the big pot...

ThrowawaySobriquet,

Have you moved them recently? Could be they just aren’t getting the same sun

ThrowawaySobriquet,

Bespoke: leaving you pants in the toilet and running away to shit in the woods

Obscure screw added so appliance cannot be disassembled (lemmy.world)

Basic blender went bad (motor ran but spindle wasn’t rotating). I wanted to disassemble to see if it could be repaired. Three of the four screws were Phillips head. I had to cut the casing open in order to discover why I couldn’t unscrew the fourth. It was a slotted spanner.

ThrowawaySobriquet,

This right here. I bought their security bit set and, true, I’ve only ever opened the case three times in the few years I’ve had it, but in those three times nothing else would have worked without a more destructive solution

ThrowawaySobriquet,

Not enough werewolves to go around since we added the lycanthropy booster to the immunization schedule

ThrowawaySobriquet,

Always. Thanks, dood

ThrowawaySobriquet,

Wanted to throw a couple close ups in. Like, look at that kale, son. And my wee little taters are going for it!

ThrowawaySobriquet,

Ah, you been busy. Lotta new beds in, I saw. How many false springs does that make for you so far?

I definitely am looking at low tunnels myself. I talked the wife into another hugel bed and she wants one end of it to have a cover so we can grow into the winter. She didn’t have to do much convincing.

On the tomatoes, maybe trellis them like grapes? Top em early, let the shoots grow outward along a low trellis horizontally? In high tunnels we would grow them on lines coming out of reels clipped to a top purlin. As the vine reached the top, we’d let some line out on the reel and move it down the purlin so the vine would be on a diagonal, but had more room to grow

ThrowawaySobriquet,
ThrowawaySobriquet,

If I knew it could make me this happy, I’d buy a Jeep so fuckin fast

ThrowawaySobriquet,

The sun be crazy. Like, it’s more or less a self-sustaining explosion that’s so far away the energy of it takes almost ten minutes to cross the void to us, but is still so powerful it can burn and blind you if you’re exposed to it for too long. And the effects are only that minor because our magnetosphere blocks most of the solar wind. That wind is coming at us at almost a million miles per hour
