@christianp While correct, I don't think that's the answer it's looking for. I think its got the wording of the problem slightly wrong. The wording used allows for many different solutions (60+60-60, 59/59+59 , etc.). I think it's meant to be using just addition, can you come up with another some using three numbers the same to make 60, with the answer being 55+5. Not as imaginitive, though! 🙂
@andrewt@christianp Yes, the official answer uses digits and numbers interchangably. Personally, I prefer the more complex answers involving different functions. There are also ones which don't involve non-whole numbers, include square roots, etc., which I think are much more creative solutions as well.
@thisismyglasgow@christianp I'm not sure that's it — to make that work the last bit has to mean "can you think of a digit, other than 20..."
The only way I can make it work is if they're treating 5 as a number and allowing concatenation. Which is fine and all, but when there's stuff like 60+60-60 so easy to find I don't think there's any reasonable position from which 55+5 is a "better" answer.
This is just "what number am I thinking of" with extra steps
@andrewt@christianp I completely agree with you on this. It's just if you search for an answer online, the supposed answer is 55+5. However, there are lots of other people who disagree that this is the best answer, or even a valid one. I'm very much in this camp.👍🙂
