It’s exhausting how many entities spend so much effort claiming that they’re “doing their part” for the climate or environment, while at best not improving the situation and at worst worsening it.
Once you understand a 1/4lb of beef requires the same amount of water the average human uses showering for a month, the fact alternatives are easier on the planet is commonsensical. Beef should truly be a high priced commodity (~$300/lb at least) but thanks to the US government subsidies there are $1 burgers on every corner. At this point the only logical conclusion is the US government is attempting to see how fast they can deplete the world resources...
Just like cattle, which are much more massive than us, we can get all our needed carbs, fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals from plants. One of the most insane stats when it comes to the beef industry is 3/4 of all crops grown in the US are used to produce feed for livestock.
Ideally we would switch 100% to vegan alternatives so then we'd have more than ample supply! Instead of a license for beef, how about something like if you havest it you take it to help eliminate hunger. I'm a vegan weightlifter (7 Years) and at 5'10" 185lb I can confidently say I feel better overall, more energized, and have no issues with protein deficiency.
Both the USSR and the UK had their own modular panel systems for prefab apartments and high rise tower blocks of almost any size, with the tallest being over 30 floors. Those systems were used extensively for new housing in the 70s and 80s, which is why a lot of apartments of that era in those places looked the same.
I know the systems themselves are pretty much obsolete now (because they went out of style and the council housing program had a lot of management issues in the UK, and the USSR sadly collapsed), but I wish they were made open source so they could be improved upon and possibly updated to modern building standards. Especially with the rise of CLT as a more sustainable building material, prefab panel high rises seem to be making a comeback, this time made of wood instead of concrete.
I feel it, I drink milk seldomly but oat works when I crave some cereal or want to lighten up my coffee every now and again. Soy is a solid choice though as well, pretty even with oat when it comes to global impact!
For sure, my coffee stays black 95%+ of the time but change is the spice of life. Nonetheless, you highlight a solid point regarding the consumption of coffee. Being soo prominent world wide must make it detrimental environmentally.
Yeah no. Biden Administration isn't going to do anything. The only way that the US can actually start seriously contributing to conservation is by first going through a fundamental overhaul of the government to something not hanging by the marionette strings of gigacorporations.
Send them the PDF in this article of a 1856 climate change warning issued by scientists based on output from the transcontinental railroad alone. Not sure it would be helpful exactly but at least it demonstrates this all preceds the modern era 🤷♂️
