is the fretting forearm perpendicular to the neck, or does it angle from the body toward the headstock?

I'm putting the guitar on my left leg and have found recently that switching from the former to teh latter, bringing my elbow in and letting my left hand angle so that my pinkie curls more than my index finger helps everything relax more.

Another thing I notice I'm doing is rotating my wrist as I move up or down the fretboard:
counter-clockwise near the headstockk, and clockwise at the higher frets.

Badscrew,

@eyesquash whatever makes you less tense is good

@Badscrew Yeah, all this comes from letting everything droop and seeing what my shoulder, elbow, wrist, and fingers are doing.

I've always tried to play with my left forearm and fretting fingers perpendicular to the guitar's neck, but I'm finding it much more relaxed to angle them a bit, especially near the nut.

This is partly because of my putting the guitar on my left leg rather than my right, which puts the headstock farther away. I do because it's more like standing up.
