I was absolutely floored by Paddy the whole season. A lay-about self-soothing king who even the throne rejects with constant cuts and scrapes. A man who refuses to see the world around him and recoils into his own fantasy world while his very real kingdom crumbles from inattention. A man who brings his teenage daughter’s closest friend into his bed, and more often than he needed to ‘do his duty’. That same man made we weep with half a face from his grief. That throne walk. House of onions over here.
Hard agree about the music, if it ain’t broke and all that. The visuals though are muddy. The house sigils are poorly delineated and the blood lines aren’t well animated. I would love for them to switch it up, at least the way GoT added new territories and houses.
I don’t mind it at all. I was really pleasantly surprised to hear they reused the GoT theme. I mean, they were never going to come up with anything better, so why not just use that iconic piece of music.
I’m probably alone in this one but If I was going to do a rewatch I think I might jump in during episode five or something. That’s not to say there’s not some good stuff in the early episodes, but I feel like there’s also a lot of set up that I’m not sure I’d like to sit through again.
We watched episode one and honestly it was great to return to Westeros. While I found there to be a few cringey lines here and there, the episode set everything up nicely and the ending with Viserys and Rhaenyra was awesome. Really sets up the rest of the season nicely. Looking forward to next week already. I would highly recommend starting from the beginning!
I agree with the sentiment, but I hope it doesn’t go too hard on the Witcher vibes. That show, was…well not good.
There’s a very narrow line that I hope they can tread that both tells an engaging and interesting story whilst also keeping it fun and approachable. I think the Witcher failed to walk that line.
I mean the vibe from the game as in the dunk and egg story is pretty lightheaded and doesn’t take itself too seriously, in an otherwise very serious universe. it’s written as a bit comic.
To be fair to DandD, they’ve proven themselves to be pretty fantastic at adapting source material. They’re not fantastic when it comes to making new material, but adaptation? Pretty great.
I assume the futility of trying to pad the iron throne. After all the nicks and cuts those who sit on it get are meant to be a reminder of the perilous nature of power in Westeros.
I included GoT in the title because there are a few references to the events of the Dance in GoT. Obviously if you want to find them it’s easy to do so but I think it’s important we have some structure in place so that people know where they stand.
If I was choosing I’d favour a tagging system, whereby posts have explicitly state that they can include or exclude spoilers.
well i would say, put a spoiler’s balise or alert in the title. Without exposing the spoiler, put the context, if thats coming from book, Got,
Example :
“[Spoiler] I just considered this from the book on the green…”
“[Spoiler] Just noticed this Regarding Rhaenerya from Got- E00S00”
I’m not gonna watch the trailer because I love going into shows absolutely blind, but I am so excited for the next season! I just recently rewatched the first season, and now I’m rewatching Game of Thrones. While GoT was revolutionary, I think HotD is produced way better and I find the story line more engaging.
