OC Does kbin/fediverse have shadowbans? Also i submitted an article on /m/worldnews and i cant see it

I submitted this news article on worldnews

https://kbin.social/m/worldnews/t/121131/Woman-s-leg-amputated-at-Bangkok-airport-after-getting-stuck-in

But i cant see it. I went through a few pages and it is showing me some 6day old submissions but not my submission. Is this some sort of shadowban? Or does the magazine puts submissions on hold till a moderator approves them? Do i have to be an approved submitter?

The state of the magazine is pretty bad since the front page of the magazine has 2+ day old submissions.

Basically, it’s just a little bug that’s being worked on. Your posts do show up, just not for you right after you post it. If you go to your top page of subscriptions and tell it to display by most recent, you’ll see your post at the top.

mack123,

I double posted a few times before I figured this one out. I am sure it will get sorted pretty soon.

I’m kinda lucky (?) that when I get a 404 page and it shows me as logged out. I’m not, and when I click on anything to load a fresh page, it tells me I’ve posted.

Kbin is still very new, after all, and still is having growing pains.

I've noticed some weird behavior with the influx of posts and comments. Could just be a bug?

Kichae,

I'm sure there are many, many bugs that are coming to light. Both Lemmy and kbin are basically beta software. Some more beta than others.

No, there are no such things as "shadowbans". I can see your article in worldnews just fine and it even appears on my "front page" bookmark (I tend to visit https://kbin.social/sub/newest/3h to find out the latest posts in my subs).

xNIBx,

I just noticed that i can see my post on new but shouldnt it appear closer to the frontpage instead of 6day old submissions? Proper promotion of new submissions by the algorithm is essential for the site. You want to encourage users to post new submissions and you want to present users with new submissions instead of week old ones.

You might not have your display set for most recent. There’s top posts, most popular, and most recent. Check which one you’re looking at.

I'm pretty sure this is a known issue. Kbin was essentially in a beta state with a pretty small user base before the reddit exodus and Eustace has this on his long list of things to fix. You might try viewing the same magazine in Lemmy and seeing if it's displayed the same way as an experiment.

Proper promotion of new submissions by the algorithm

There's no promotion algorithm. Just different sorting options (you can control these in the top bar) and popularity (likes)

xNIBx,

There is always an algorithm, even if the algorithm is just showing the most upvoted posts from the last 24hours.

Yes, as I said, there's a popularity sorting and several filters (hot, active, newest, oldest).

all-knight-party,

I think this is even a pro, having it all controlled by an unseen, unknown algorithm opens up an ability for bad actors or corruption to control what content gets out to people. If you want to see newer posts, you sort by new.

Well, it's on the frontpage for me now on both "hot" and "active".

Thanks for posting it by the way, we need more human interest stories from around the globe in m/worldnews
