@skribe a lot of the virtualization solutions are "good enough", but they don't virtualize a lot of obscure hardware. So if you have weird boards in your old system that can't be substituted by the defaults, you're out of luck. They have the CPU family, disk controllers, motherboards, chipsets, NICs...normal stuff. But you can't virtualize your weird 80s non-PCI industrial control board and you can't plug it into a modern system and pass it thru.
