With a little of spare time this morning, I was able to (finally) install Fedora 39 on my Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with Secure Boot enabled using a bootable USB stick with an older version of BOOTX64.EFI. [1]
I had to temporarily disable TPM in order for the system to boot after the install. Resetting the Secure Boot keys to Microsoft and Third-Party keys and re-enabling TPM [2] after installing the latest updates allowed me to boot back into Fedora with both TPM and Secure Boot enabled.
Since I still wanted a computer that ran KDE Plasma, I went with the KDE spin.
The Surface is definitely a bit tired and slow, but still very usable for browsing the web and editing documents.
Although I'm not quite ready to try out a pre-release version of Fedora 40 with KDE Plasma 6 on the Surface yet, at least I'll be ready when it hits GA.
@adamw Crossing my fingers that y'all will be able to get it resolved. Disabling secure boot is an okay option for a device that I just want to use as a playground, but definitely a must-have for other use cases.
I had an extra 30 minutes to give it another go this morning and the details I found in the discussions for both were easy to follow. Installing and updating the OS took the longest amount of time due to the Surface's poor WiFi (was bad with Windows and slightly better with Debian 12) and aging SSD.
