aniki,

The hardest part of making your own cyberdeck are solved with this project in the two most important ways – a blackberry keyboard with a usb interface and the STL files for the keyboard case so you can import the face plate right into your CAD design.

Yeah, I ordered a keyboard.

“Sony Ericsson m1i” be like

Dreyns,

Ok now find a job in a suspicious facility, write all your whereabouts inside that thing, die gruesomely, and make sure this thing is visible on you, bonus point if you manage to get some blood on the screen !

aniki,

you’ll never get one at the rate they ship.

tsonfeir,
@tsonfeir@lemm.ee avatar

Seriously, ordered mine in November… still nothing.

aniki,

23xxx still waiting. 8 fucking months, nada. Alex says “days.” LOL.

Petter1,

Would it be faster ordered without compute module and get that from somewhere else?

aniki,

It’s been eight months… It’s so far beyond simple device availability.

Petter1,

So, rugpull it is?

aniki,

I don’t think there’s any intention to commit fraud, I just think the company is very poorly run and they continue to sell units and take money without having distribution setup in any capacity so they are just constantly 6-12 months behind on orders.

Petter1,

I think most rugpulls aren’t that intentional but just poor management But I am pretty the ragpull that rabbit did under different company name prior r1 was very intentional, lol, what a fraud company

aniki,

What’s the rabbit R1 drama? I’ve only heard about their stupid android device getting dumped and the APK released.

Petter1,

Prior it’s name change to rabbit, the company was a AI NFT scam company where you have bought NFT with the promise to get AI features in the future. After some time, they ghosted their discord and ignored all voices from the community.

Now they make “NFT scam” with real hardware and all they have done until now is a custom chatGPT app and promises to revolutionize the tech world.

aniki,

Remarkable…

Fucking Alex.

Wolfman86,

Want.

ech,

When I was younger, palmpilots and blackberrys were the coolest things to me. Something that was basically a computer you could carry in your pocket? I wanted one so bad! And now basically everyone has something even better. Funny how things change.

jettrscga,

Not to brag, but my mom let me have her old palm pilot from work.

Guess I was pretty cool when I peaked 20 years ago.

HouseWolf,

I only recently found out Blackberry still make phones and they still have the physical keyboard! One of my coworkers has one and I did a double take when I first seen it.

AtariDump,

Running Android. The BlackBerry OS does years ago.

TheCheddarCheese,
@TheCheddarCheese@lemmy.world avatar

I still find them cool. I’m kind of into retro phones I guess

njordomir,

I bought my first handheld anything, the Palm Zire 31 in high school. Everyone thought I was weird, but I was also organized. :P

Longpork3,

I would argue that the modern smartphone is different, but by no means better. Between the locked down operating systems and the lack of a physical keyboard they are great for consuming media through approved channels, but basically useless if you want to get any work done with them.

Bitrot,

But can it create that old GSM speaker buzz like my Blackberry did?

chellomere,

Be bedebe bedebe bedebe

blindsight,

JFC. Stand-up meetings with people dialed in to the speakerphone. Buzz-screech all meeting every meeting.

aniki,

I’ve been told my clockwork pi will be shipping any day now. I ordered in September 😅🤣 I’m never getting that fucking thing

Bonehead,

Yeah that's cool and all. But now build that into the front of this, and I'll really be impressed.

Bitrot,

Wow there’s some memories I didn’t know I still had.

MonkderDritte,

Blackberrypy 3: full size touchscreen with a flip keyboard, right?

MonkderDritte,

You don’t sand your 3d prints?

acockworkorange,

Those are grip enhancement surface features.

tsonfeir,
@tsonfeir@lemm.ee avatar

Actually, those are speed lines. It makes you type faster.

MonkderDritte,

No, around the keyboard.

mihnt,

What the other person said. This is a prototype and looks to be printed with thicker layers than normal (.2mm is the usual.) to save time.

Gormadt,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You mean the small gaps in the filament?

Those won’t go away with sanding unless you go really deep

And personally for a prototype sanding is a waste of time. Get something working as you expect, then roughly design a case, iterate the case, finalize the case design, then finally worry about surface finish.

Nilz,

You sand your 3D prints?

MonkderDritte, (edited )

I’m still planning to do some projects with it. But other projects always come in the way.

So it’s not common to make the lines away, at least on surfaces?

edit: ok, that still seems to be a prototype.

DavidGarcia,

BlackberryPi Flipper Zero with LoRa and a thermal camera (because why not) would be cool

xnx,

The lillygo t deck is a blackberry style device with lora www.lilygo.cc/products/t-deck

SpaceNoodle,

915 MHz sold out :(

Shareni,

Aren’t all ESPs used in lillygo devices universally bad as portables. I’ve read that her watches last only a couple of hours with minimal use.

Suoko,
@Suoko@feddit.it avatar

That looks great for hiking and scout boys

Blue_Morpho,

No need for a flipper when you could add a SDR module to a Pi.
