📖 “London's most Dangerous Junctions mapped” – This is an awesome project. I’m wondering if someone has made something similar for Montreal? https://lcc.org.uk/news/londons-dangerous-junctions-2023/

My take, off the top of my head, not data-based (I have been working as a bike messenger in Montreal for the past 8 years.) Would be curious to see what the data says, although so much has changed in the last ~4-5 years wrt bike lanes and priority lights, intersection design changes etc... My list would have been completely different a few years ago.

@peoplelikedogs Thanks for sharing. I can’t argue with 8 years of direct experience! Overall, do you feel Montreal has become safer for cyclists over the years?

@heliomass absolutely! The improvements in bike infrastructure have been a total game changer since I started working on the road. There are still a lot of problems - I still think the narrow, 2-way paths e.g. de mais and Rachel are a huge liability, especially with the increase in ebike, escooters and cargo. But overall I am actually super impressed with it. (Also I mention my courier experience just to say that I have a high level of familiarity with most of the city core and have seen the changes over time... Not to say my experience of being a cyclist here is more valid than anyone else's!)

@peoplelikedogs It’s good to know things are moving in the right direction. As someone who’s a nervous cyclist but a cycling advocate the infrastructure makes me feel a lot more confident… confident enough to try winter cycling for the first time.

@heliomass We get a more raw/detailed view with bikedata.cyclestreets.net . For example it seems odd that LCC map has this near me as the19th most dangerous junction in London. https://bikedata.cyclestreets.net/collisions/#18.7/51.5774591/-0.1281647 One death near that junction, which logically makes it less dangerous than this one nearby https://bikedata.cyclestreets.net/collisions/#18.72/51.5726462/-0.125632

@harry_wood That’s interesting. I wonder if people will begin to plan their routes to avoid these spots?
