The Astaxanthin Hype

I've been doing research as I recently heard about astaxanthin used as a supplement. For those who don't know astaxanthin, it is a carotenoid pigment, a chemical found naturally in certain plants and animals. It is well known that astaxanthin gives salmon, lobster, and shrimp the red color we all know.

The biggest claim refers to its antioxidant properties. Astaxanthin lowers oxidative stress particularly among smokers and overweight people. Astaxanthin fights chronic inflammation, restoring cellular health and supporting overall health and longevity.

I found another study cited that supports the idea that astaxanthin has short- and long-term benefits for the treatment of breast cancer.

Overall, there are studies that show the benefits of astaxanthin at supporting organ health, such as brain, heart, and skin. Have you tried it? Have you heard of these claims? I'm interested in learning more about astaxanthin as a supplement.
