Ugh, parents going somewhere long distance? Disgusting. You should be on house arrest until at least 18 months.

Nerorero,

Bad parents just suck

ThatWeirdGuy1001,
@ThatWeirdGuy1001@sh.itjust.works avatar

One thing I will say about lemmy is y’all take shit way too seriously. It’s a meme. A relatable one at that. Getting annoyed by children is normal and it’s not like anyone’s actively trying to get rid of your kids.

Librechad,

Nah, fuck them kids bro

ThatWeirdGuy1001,
@ThatWeirdGuy1001@sh.itjust.works avatar

I mean I agree. Personally I hate kids. But I’m not trying to get rid of them or anything like that I just avoid them as much as possible

MobileTechGuy,

Amen to that. It’s a joke, for my sake

vegai,

Most parents: lol, I’m with this screaming 24/7/365. Fuck your grief :) :)

MaxMouseOCX,

I have 3 kids, they’re much older now and I love them dearly… Have another one? I would rather cut my cock off with a rusty spoon. I have no clue how I got through all of the crying and bullshit.

HeavyTwenty,

Screaming kids are easy to ignore on most flights but I recently had one on a 14.5+ hour flight (Asia to US). Screamed 10-20 mins every 1 to 2 hours. I got 2 hours of sleep and felt as if I had the flu.

Mowcherie,

Investment in some noise-cancelling headphone would be justified. It’s a sanity-saving expense!

meta_synth,

I find that noise cancelling headphones make everything quieter, and then cancel out all the low frequencies… Leaving nothing BUT crying for you to listen to!

Sephtis-6,
Sephtis-6 avatar

Noise canceling headphones combined with unhealthy loud music/movie. Don't recommend it for longer trips

oxjox,
@oxjox@lemmy.ml avatar

Dang that’s a big plane! 4x4??

PrettyFlyForAFatGuy,

One time, my one year old niece screamed all the way from Barbados BGI to London Gatwick

I was glad of my headphones.

She was fine on the way out there though

Repulsion at the thought of sharing space with the most vulnerable humans literally unable to communicate or control their emotions is a sign of a deeply sick society

autismdragon,
@autismdragon@hexbear.net avatar

Thank you for saying it. Its frustrating how common revulsion towards children is.

JamesConeZone,
@JamesConeZone@hexbear.net avatar

There’s also a complete contradiction in how these people see children. Children are not an individual issue, as if the only input they get is from their caretakers. They are moulded and shaped by society like everyone else, and a society that teaches them that being a normal kid is wrong because it inconveniences adults actively harms everyone. So by even thinking children can behave in ways they physically can’t – their brain isn’t even developed for Christ’s sake – by making the individual choice to belittle or shame children for being kids, these individuals actively make society worse, thereby continuing the cycle of sickness.

I’d bet in many cases that people who resent children existing are actually resentful they weren’t allowed to be children.

autismdragon,
@autismdragon@hexbear.net avatar

People complain about science denial a lot but then those same people will act like young children are capable of active malice when its scientific consensus among developmental psychologists that they are not. I’ve had this argument so many times.

balderdash9,

They do make a lot of noise and shit in their pants.

JamesConeZone,
@JamesConeZone@hexbear.net avatar

Yes that is developmentally normal behaviour

airlinefood, (edited )

Lots of things are normal that I’d rather not spend extended periods of time in a small space with.

JamesConeZone,
@JamesConeZone@hexbear.net avatar

My sibling in Christ, it is public transport not Noma

airlinefood,

whats noma?

JamesConeZone,
@JamesConeZone@hexbear.net avatar

A restaurant where people pay money for an exclusive experience that is focused around pure enjoyment, important to note that it is not transporting a family to go see Grandpa before he dies

airlinefood,

I was expecting a ‘ligma’ joke lol

JamesConeZone,
@JamesConeZone@hexbear.net avatar

I typed out “noma deez nuts” but erased it in case someone else didn’t know what it was lol

Draedron,

Them being unable to control it doesnt make them less annoying.

JamesConeZone,
@JamesConeZone@hexbear.net avatar

Do some self-crit. Why do you feel that way and why has our society applauded that idea? Where did the idea of kids should be seen but not heard come from and why did our society so quickly adopt it? Why are kids seen as an inconvenience instead of learning to exist in society? What affect does this have on you and on kids you interact with?

Stuka,

Stop taking screaming babies on airplanes.

motherfucker,

No

AhismaMiasma,

Yeah, sometimes we miss events. The priveledge of being a parent.

autismdragon,
@autismdragon@hexbear.net avatar

The idea that a person should have to skip their father’s funeral because they have a newborn is absolutely fucking bonkers. Public transport is for everyone that needs to be transported (or should be).

Privilege? Our society actively punishes and shames parents, what are you talking about

LOL

Americans pay close to 20% of their income for childcare which the richest country in the history of the world chooses not to pay for.

For Americans, giving birth costs thousands of dollars for the hospital visit if nothing goes wrong, nevermind the OB visits or testing necessary.

Again in America, most people have no maternal/paternal leave. This is legislative punishment. Removing productivity from the economy must be punished and barriers to people having kids must be put up. Children cannot contribute to the economy, so are treated as burdens and a nuisance. Children are not allowed to interact in most of society because they are “loud and obnoxious” and are expected to be neither seen nor heard. When they are, parents are shamed by people like you.

And then there’s little shits like those in this thread who sneer at the very idea of kids being around them.

ETA: for comparison, communist East Germany had

  • 6 months of paid maternity leave while pregnant
  • 1,000 marks up front for your kid (about a month’s wages)
  • 1 year of paid maternity leave after birth of child
  • Job guarantee after that time away
  • 23 days PTO annually to care for sick children. Shift workers got additional 10 days
  • Guaranteed free childcare for 3-6 yr olds and for those under 3 if you qualified

And they had no where near the wealth or resources that the USA does. This was in the 80s during heavy political pressure too!

Your lack of basic human empathy is infinitely more annoying. I hope that you yourself are a child with an underdeveloped brain, because the alternative is that you have no soul.

sp00nix,

I don’t think I could be on a flight with this guy.

Diplomjodler,

I’d be interested in acquiring some children. For… purposes… Where can I get some?

“DAE anyone else hate crotch nuggets. Breeders amirite. Us epic ledditors would never have children because we maintain our virginity.”

Shut up already. It’s a baby. when your brain develops fully you’ll have enough empathy to stop constantly whining about them.

Do you feel personally attacked because you are a baby?

Samsy,

Parent who fly with toddlers here. My kids made noise throughout the entire flight. To those passengers who got mad, you know what I think: Fuck you!

To be clear, I never met anyone who was angry. Most people made fun with them and enjoyed seeing the youth

Honytawk,

Fuck you!

Well fuck your children then too. If they get close while screaming, I will hit them.

oregoncom,
@oregoncom@hexbear.net avatar

If I see one of you reddit neckbeards lay a single hand on a child I will smash your skull in.

space_comrade,

I’ll never mention anything on the plane of course because I realize the parents don’t really have a choice and small children will inevitably act like small children but I can’t really help being annoyed by their behavior either. Some people just don’t like kids and that’s fine too.

silent_water,

To those passengers who got mad, you know what I think: Fuck you!

based

MaxMouseOCX,

Control your children, or don’t have them. Fuck you.

klyde,

It’s fine if they’re playing. If all they’re doing is crying, no one wants to hear that shit.

SnailMagnitude,

youtu.be/HkOguZfNJUo

My only issue with kids on a flight is if I’m responsible for them. If they are someone else’s problem, all is well.

entropicshart,

Everyone acting like they weren’t a kid themselves at some point in life. Get over yourself and stfu.

MaoWasRight,

Give me one single person on this post that is “acting like they weren’t a kid themselves at some point in life”.

Just one.

Or are you fighting with ghosts?

randomperson,

Daddict moment

Honytawk,

I was never a kid on a plane no. My parents knew how awful it is to bring small kids on flights.

MuffinHeeler,

Maybe it’s different in the USA, but I’ve travelled a lot and don’t think I ever remember a long haul flight without multiple babies and young children. It’s just a fact of travelling.

I recently did a 16hr flight solo and the other 3 seats in my row of 4 were parents and a toddler.

That’s just part of flying and you should plan for it (noise cancelling headphones, sleeping tablets, ear plugs).

huf,

kids crying/screaming on public transport/etc rarely bothers me. impatient parents hissing at them to shut up and sit down does, however… i get it, they’re tired, being a parent is hard, but still.

a kid cries on the tram? i keep reading, barely even notice

a parent goes off on their kid? rips me right out of the book and makes me take notice

Colour_me_triggered,

European flights are full of kids. It’s just the “child free” movement are very vocal and feel extremely entitled.

telllos,

Yeah, they kinda forget what they were.

ikidd,
@ikidd@lemmy.world avatar

How do you get the sleeping tablets in the babies without the parents noticing?

Hovenko,

That motherfucker is not real

Angry_Maple,
@Angry_Maple@sh.itjust.works avatar

I don’t get the rage that some of these comments have from seeing this meme.

It doesn’t say that anyone actually did or said anything, just that their expression dropped after seeing an infant board a plane.

People are allowed to be disappointed. I mean, I don’t think that most parents actually love hearing screaming and/or crying either. Is a (probably) brief facial expression seriously the same as hating all children, or wishing for them to dissapear to some of you guys? Jeez Louise.

I mean, normally I wouldn’t give a hoot either way. Kids on the plane, no kids on the plane, whatever. If I had a migraine that day though, yeah, I wouldn’t be thrilled. I wouldn’t be upset at anyone for the noise in the slightest, but I also wouldn’t be joyful about it.

Are we certain that that’s the actual contect of the picture, or did someone just say it was? Is this the accurate, OG text on the picture? Did any one of those people actually say or do anything beyond a facial expression when seeing very small children board the plane?

Some of you guys need to take a deep breath and just relax. I’m referring to both extremes with this.

klyde,

It’s because they themselves have kids lol

electrogamerman,

For real. Ill never understand when people are like “having children is the best thing you can do”. Like hell nah!

Ataraxia,
@Ataraxia@lemmy.world avatar

Makes me think that a lot of these people are pissed off that those who can’t afford or just don’t give a shit about being sentenced to parenthood for life won’t have anyone to exploit when their kids grow up. Also misery loves company. People get really angry when they realize their life didn’t have to end that way and that they actually had a choice so to validate their mistakes they shame and try to push others who didn’t into the same so they can say “there, you see? There really isn’t any other choice”

SpiderShoeCult,

and some people in these comments seem to fail to make the distinction between being childfree and an antinatalist

some_designer_dude,

Hard disagree. Kill all the children!
