“Where Is There to Go?”
He Needs Gender-Affirming Surgery, but His State Is Fighting to Deny Coverage.

A policy that denies state employees coverage for gender-affirming care has been on hold pending appeal.

For one worker still awaiting surgery, the anxiety is “like somebody has got their hands around my neck.”

Healthcarer,

@ProPublica Where to begin? X needs Y. How do we get to that conclusion? X is in distress and usually would choose to consult Z who would independently assess the situation, make further inquiry and suggest potentially useful options. This often works and is always worth a try. In this situation it seems to have been bypassed. X has decided that the distress whatever form it takes will be most effectively relieved by Y in the absence of anything more than a personal fiat. Fat chance.

The causal chain in his denial:

Guy: "Hi, I have gender dysphoria."

Doctor: "Cool, we can help that. Let me just check with your insurance company."

Insurance: "Sure let me just check with the government quick."

Government: "Let me check with my base first, gotta stay elected right?"

Voters: "I claim to love small government and personal freedom... But what does Fox News say?"

Fox News: "Boogity Boogity trans people rape kids all day in bathrooms, genocide is the only answer!"
