I love the Sim City games (ever since I played the original in school in the early 90s!) I recently grabbed Cities: Skylines on Switch when it was on sale for less than $10 and I haven't dived in yet, but I'm psyched to eventually.
But this time, instead of just jumping in and building whatever (as I often do, recently with both the Sim City mobile game and the Sim City on DS), I'm doing some research on city design, to try and build something in a meaningful way. I want to see what designs I really like most, etc. From what I hear about Skylines, it's super realistic, and I should be able to build a cool, futuristic city that's fully green, sustainable, etc.
Anybody else played Skylines or is a big fan of any of the other Sim City games?
@lars That's what I'm about! I know you're a big cyclist - I used to be, as a kid.. Super hot here. Hard to get out much. But I am NOT a fan of cars 🤣 car free cities ftw
@jake4480 one of the funny things about Cities Skylines is that it turns you into an urban planning nerd. And heat management is obviously an urban planning issue: more trees, less road surface goes a long way
@lars 🤣😂🤣 that is hilarious - I've heard similar things from other people. If only we could start again with some of our badly planned cities everywhere.
@monkeyben I hear THAT. Yeah, I don't pay for mobile games. Microtransactions. Yuck. What kind of games are you into most? Not that I wanna add to your backlog 🤣 but the Switch just has SO many games and I've tried hundreds
I like loads of types but I think my faves are platform, esp 2D. I miss them on phone. They aren't the same without a physically controller. Also, lucasart style point and click, hidden objects and racing games.
@monkeyben oh nice. The Switch definitely has a lot of these! I'm fairly bad at platformers 🤣 but I do love em. Not to add TOO much to your backlog, but here's just a few. Wife just played through Bowser's Fury which was a cool add-on to the Mario 3D World remaster they did (she previously played the pretty good Yoshi game for it too). Now she's doing Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which is also pretty wild. I'm more into the indie stuff than she is, Kero Blaster comes to mind first. What a game. Kaze and the Wild Masks is pretty rad, reminds me of like, DK Country or Sonic. And how could I forget Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. Thy Sword is wild, I ALMOST have it beaten. Super Kiwi 64 is reminiscent of 64 games, and is cheap and fun. Also Toree 3D. Made by the same guy. Savage Halloween is badass. Depending on type of platformers you like (cute or badass) the Woodle Tree games are cute ones. Biolab Wars, Moon Raider. Lumini is beautiful. And finally, just one arcade/twin stick - a personal favorite and pretty easy game to beat just for fun, Wizodd. Hope that's not too many. I really did try to limit myself, I promise 🤣😂🤣
Thank you! Thats some great suggestions. I've added a lot to my wishlist. Tempted with Kero Blaster and Yooka-Layee if I have enough storage. I love Team 17, the Alien Breed series, Worms, and one of my favs - Superfrog!
@synlogic Haha another fan! Yeah I'm psyched to try.. Looks super realistic. The Sim City games are so fun. Even the mobile one was pretty wild, eventually though, all these weird tasks got kinda repetitive 🤣
@jake4480 though not perfect, the game places a heavy emphasis on traffic, traffic planning, and the movement of industrial and commercial goods. You will be a traffic master after about 60 hours 😎
@jake4480 agreed lol. I found that the game has simultaneously giving me a whole new appreciation of intelligent city design while also making me super frustrated at Old cities that didn't think ahead. Hope you enjoy!
