sometimes I completely lack the motivation to do anything.. but then there's SimCity2000! 💙 There's a patched version that runs under Win10/11 with native resolution.. which is nice.
Back in the day, game developers needed to explain and justify each and every file that came with a game. The user was respected as the local system administrator and owner of the computer.
I just received this from eBay USA: "SimCity Classic - Deluxe Edition for Windows". Pretty much the definitive version of SimCity Classic. The Deluxe Edition will install both the official SimCity graphic packs and the Terrain Editor.
I learned this week that the soundtrack to the 1990's computer game "SimPark" is actually Michigan. Lots of examples this week!! Took me only nearly 30 years to figure that one out.
Hey all, I put a little handy guide on how to get EA classics working on your Steam Deck/Linux device (stuff like SimCity 3000, Populous: The Beginning, and Command and Conquer 2):
I was going to play some #SimAnt or #SimCity this weekend to celebrate #MARCHintosh, but now I'm thinking I may just do an evening #HyperCard dev stream to show off the #zine I've been working on (slowly).
"SimCity was described as a software toy by its creators at Maxis. I believe this is a rather apt turn of phrase. SimCity isn’t a game in the traditional sense as there is no predetermined end-goal, there is no story arch, and there is no end. SimCity can be played indefinitely"
Y'all might enjoy this: I've been working on a SimCity 2000 playthrough series on #PeerTube and had to quit a while back due to problems streaming with OBS, but lo and behold we are back.
One of my favourite things to do when I used to get a new computer, was to load up the older games and play them at their max settings. I forgot to do that in the last few years!
Wanna feel old? SimCity 2000 was released 30 years ago. This video retrospective is an awesome look back at the game and I love the video creator's enthusiasm for it!
SC2000 was way ahead of its time. It's unfortunate how the franchise ended up, although the modern Cities: Skylines series is a great love-letter to Maxis' original vision.
Today I discovered that Nintendo's port of SimCity for the SNES got a Japan only sequel for the N64 DD , made by none other than the famous HAL.
It seems to be ahead of its time with features that would be seen in later entries like the ability to view the city at night , pedestrian level free-roaming & individual vehicles & pedestrians in free roam mode. Cities are presented in 3D hybrid graphics. As Simcopter 64 got cancelled they integrated it here instead.
