@stshank I'll give you that Sigma can deliver some really good looking shots when focused right, but in my experience it is so "hit and miss" if and when they do on Canon bodies.
Especially those with EF mount.
Manually focused you will be able to focus them, but if you rely on AF on the older bodies with AF mount they - in my experience - fail miserably, inconsistently, and way more than you ever will be able to manually microadjust.
I had a 50mm, f/1.4, that would need more than 20-25 steps of microadjusting beyond the normal ±30 steps. And if you did it right it would only be correct until the next time you tried to autofocus, then it would fail again. You don't need to be much off on a f/1.4 to have a completely lost shot.
Today I'm all L-lenses and it might be more expensive, but when it fails I know that the failure is behind the camera body and not attached to its front...
@JonasE I'm mostly L glass myself these days, but I really like my Sigma 35mm f1.4 and in particular on my Canon R5 with eye focus, it seems to focus pretty well. And of course IBIS in the camera makes it much more useful.
Sigma quality is kind of a moot point for you and me since Canon seems to want to squeeze out third-party lenses, which I think is a terrible long-term decision, especially given Sony's ascendency.
