This is a composite of two Phase One captures with the Rodenstock 70mm Digaron lens, each made with the back shifted up 15mm, and then with the individual captures shifted 18mm left and right, respectively. The result is two "side-by-side" 4x3 vertical images, with just enough overlap to allow them to be stitched together into a single 5x7 horizontal frame, yielding a total of about 280 megapixels.
The equivalent field of view on a "full frame" 35mm camera would be roughly that of a 26mm lens.
From above, everything looks crammed together, yet that's an illusion. On the ground, nothing is near anything else.
To the extent that Las Vegas, and particularly the southern end of the "strip", has a unique charm, it is especially well hidden during the day, when the excitement and the lights give way to an aesthetic apparently inspired by a drunken marriage of an abandoned 1980's mega shopping mall with a second-tier theme park.
