@worthlessbums It honestly makes me start to wonder if the post-WWII sorta unification of Europe was mostly possible because there were still more distant (and browner) countries to hate instead

I want to believe WWII taught people better but...any lessons learned seem to be rapidly forgotten

@SirTapTap the idea that cooperation and trade might supersede bigotry in terms of encompassing power has merit

the problem is always that bigotry needs to be fought, constantly, or this is the result

@worthlessbums yeah. Can't fully fault people for trying to trade the hostility out of Russia for example.

But the moment you have an all powerful ruler, you cease to have a national strategy, political parties, anything. You're that guy. If that guy wants the exact opposite of what's worked for 100 years, that's what you're getting
