Trump Steps Up, Helping Biden Just When the President Needs Him

If anyone gets a thank-you note from President Biden for helping get him out of a jam in recent days, it should probably be former President Donald J. Trump.

Just when Mr. Biden was swamped by unwelcome questions about his age, his predecessor and challenger stepped in, rescuing him with an ill-timed diatribe vowing to “encourage” Russia to attack NATO allies that do not spend enough on their militaries.

The stunner from Mr. Trump over the weekend not only drew attention away from the president’s memory problems, as detailed in a special counsel report, but also provided a convenient way for Mr. Biden’s defenders to reframe the issue: Yes, they could now say, the incumbent may be an old man who sometimes forgets things, but his challenger is both aging and dangerously reckless.

7 day ban. How is that?

No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.

    Algaroth,

    I was civil.

    Cqrd,

The NYT is basically a paid concern troll at this point and it’s annoying. They’re the only ones even talking about Biden’s age at this point and they only do it when people are focused on Trump saying stupid shit.

    Viking_Hippie,

Just when Mr. Biden was swamped by unwelcome questions about his age

And, you know, his continuing support of an ongoing genocide.

And before the Biden stans point it out: YES I know he’s beginning to make public statements against it and sending the blind guy from Robin Hood: Men In Tights to talk to the apartheid regime, but he and the rest of the party leadership still want to send weapons and funding, something he even circumvented normal rules to expedite twice in December alone.

Until the Biden administration imposes sanctions rather than giving them weapons and money, they are 100% complicit.

    Algaroth,

I am in no way a “Biden stan” but I would like you to answer me honestly. How do you think Trump would handle it?

    Viking_Hippie,

Even worse, but that’s not the point. The bar should never be at “marginally better than a deranged fascist toddler”.

    Algaroth,

So what is your suggestion then?

    Viking_Hippie, (edited )

Mass protests in front of the White House. Everyone writing and calling the White House and their representatives every day saying “not in our name”. Joining BDS. Boycotting AIPAC and similar Israeli government agencies. Giving to and volunteering for Red Crescent and other charities trying to help Palestinians directly. Doing the same with NGOs like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch who work to expose and disseminate the truth about atrocities committed all over the world.

Anything but the current strategy: https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/52e76c08-be5a-4298-81cf-a87bcbdfdaf6.jpeg

    Algaroth,

Then say that. Because on every post about Biden there is someone complaining about him being complicit in genocide but never mentioning anything other than not voting for him or that Trump is worse. To an outsider that looks a lot like a concerted effort to get people to not vote and that benefits republicans because their base votes no matter what.

    Viking_Hippie,

So you’re not allowed to criticize something unquestioningly reprehensible that someone who’s supposed to represent all Americans to the left of fascism is doing without also providing a laundry list of how to change his abhorrent behavior without electing a fascist?

That’s gatekeeping dissent and to an outsider, it’s near-identical to the Trump cult in terms of the cult of personality aspect specifically.

    Removed, rule 3:

“Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (perjorative, perjorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (perjorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect!”

    Viking_Hippie,

Right back at you, buddy! 🙄

    Algaroth,

    At least you admit it.

    Viking_Hippie,

I admit nothing of the sort. I was referring to the latter part, not the completely baseless accusation part.

    Algaroth,

Fair enough. You’re still a dick.

    Viking_Hippie,

Nope, that’s still you. Run along, now.

    Algaroth, (edited )

Or do you just get off on people pretending to like you?

    Algaroth,

You were so close to not being a massive twat.

    Zaktor,

The New York Times just couldn’t resist turning Trump doing a dangerous and stupid thing into another excuse to pump the Biden-age story. Trump has evidenced the same and worse mental issues and the esteemed “liberal” press would never in a million years spend multiple stories on multiple days talking about it.

The NYT has a bombshell expose every once in a while, but their standing impact on the world is whitewashing conservative propaganda so they can show they’re not partisan.

    jonne,

They have such terminal liberal brain. The average American does not give a shit about NATO, and if they have any opinion about it, they probably accepted Trump’s framing that somehow US taxpayers are paying for the whole thing (as opposed to it basically being a very useful framework to make sure all of Europe is basically buying American weapons).

    neptune,

It’s a newspapers job to explain shit like NATO to people who choose not to read

They do call him former president in the article? They also call him Mr. Trump?

    Of course

Trump couldn’t stand not being in the spotlight for even a moment
