Anybody knows how to start up #urxvt or xterm with a different .Xresources file than your main one? Like, for example, with a command-line option indicating another config file to use.
I want to be write a script to launch urxvt with a larger font for reading #ebooks on the terminal with #epr. Hacks appreciated!
@kzimmermann I've not tried this, but this article mentions changing the instance name with the -name option. Then referencing this name in your .Xresources file. Not sure if this will do what you want it to, but might be worth a look.
@buck10 hey thanks! This works quite nicely! I set the name string to something like BookReader and now can call it via a specific alias or script. Thank you for sharing this!
@kzimmermann@joel haven’t used that in eons but if memory serves you can override individual settings from the command line (eg which font to use and such…)
@kzimmermann I'm unsure if urxvt supports loading Xresources like that, but maybe you can write a shell script to load a separate Xresources file via xrdb, then once it closes, you load your main one? I'm sure there's more to it than that but that's my napkin code idea.
