Reading this article about Masto & the Fediverse. I think I generally agree with it. This is all stuff we could work on though - like, getting instances to load the past history of users when you look them up on other platforms seems simple enough. :/
The posts later points though are very well aimed - What people want from Twitter and the like is, not exactly the same as what a lot of people want from Masto & the fediverse, and reconciling these desires is far from trivial. :/
Some kind of a feature to have new instances automatically load some posts from other instances to populate their federated feeds would be doable too - I remember way back when I joined, people were using 'follow bots' for this purpose, surely we could figure out a less annoying solution. :/
(I really would like to have Masto load old posts from users on other instances even if they haven't been followed by anyone on the instance yet though, it would be a major usability improvement for me. :/ )
(If I get followed by someone, and I click to view their profile but can't see any of their posts because nobody on my instance follows them, and so I need to click to view it in a separate page - that's dumb and annoying. Just Load The Posts, Mastodon, goddamn. :/ )
