I’m not really feeling matrix (running a server seems… complicated) but I’m definitely interested in any and all alternatives to telegram or discord rn, especially if they have sticker support. Lay ‘em on me #telegram#alternatives
You know what's extra ironic about phone numbers as ID? Providers recycle them. Someone already sent me a message thinking I was somebody else. It's possible I could gain access to a WhatsApp account or whatever else the person before me used.
So?
Let them leave.
Pretty much anywhere they go they'll need to pay taxes.
They can't take the land, houses, resources, or infrastructure they're hoarding.
They're not doing us a favour, Trickle down is a lie.
If they're only staying as long as they can avoid contributing their fair share, why would we want them here anyway?
Either they contribute to the society that benefits them or they leave and free up their stash.
@pezmico Massachusetts passed a 4% tax on income over $1 million and now we have free lunch for all public school students. Turns out they didn’t all immediately flee the state ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Most of #bluesky’s appeal at this point is just a vague feeling of FOMO since you can’t just look at posts that are linked or have an rss feed or something.
I don't understand whats up with my posts getting interacted with these days. It feels really random, sometimes I post something that feels like it would get a lot of traction and it gets like 3 likes and then randomly something pops off and gets a life of its own. The "non algorithm" feels very different from last year.
I am skimming over the rules for FidoNet, an international federated volunteer-run network from the dialup BBS era.
FidoNet was very implicitly hierarchical, due to being designed to minimize expensive long-distance phone calls in a time when calling outside of your city was priced by the minute. The Fediverse is a lot more anarchic, and I feel this is one of its strengths. But there are definitely things to think about as a #mastoadmin.
We could definitely use a MastoNews, as well as a FediNews, that every admin and user is made aware of during setup, for instance; right now one must be told about hashtags like the one this is posted in via word of mouth, and most admin-to-admin communication happens when we organize, or are invited to, an informal private chat. Which are incredibly valuable, but I am beginning to feel it may be time for something more formal than that, and something less ephemeral and prone to snap judgements and lack of nuance than a hashtag on a system that limits everyone to 500 character posts!
@anthracite the second screenshot is something I wish worked in theory, but people take that latter "don't be excessively annoying" attitude to really engage in respectability politics given enough time and size of network.
A weekly newsletter would be interesting but honestly the network and list of available softwares may be too big for any one news letter to cover everything already!
Ok so I have a raspberry pi 3 and a 4 (gotten before their whole scandal a while back ugh..). I would like to make one into a home assistant machine and one into a plex server…. Which one would you make into which? 🙏🏻
Reading this article about Masto & the Fediverse. I think I generally agree with it. This is all stuff we could work on though - like, getting instances to load the past history of users when you look them up on other platforms seems simple enough. :/
