If I've translated a dozen Privacy Policies, I've translated a hundred ...

rm4,

@AdamBishop Do you think its a good idea to offer privacy policies in multiple languages rather than leave it up to autotranslators?

@rm4 As a legal text, it can be important when providing services and collecting data across different jurisdictions. For example, if you are legally based in one country, but selling and shipping products via e-commerce to other countries, your legal terms and conditions would be expected to be clear, transparent and correct in the language of those users you are collecting data from. Autotranslation of legal documents is a real gamble that could potentially have expensive consequences.

@rm4 ... This is because the responsibility and legal basis for the data collection lies with the data collector and not the end-user. It's not like software where the provider can say "use at your own risk". It is not the data collector that delivers something to the user "as is" and leaves it as that, it is the user that is asked to transfer their data for a specific purpose. That purpose must be clear.
