TheQuinbox,

I really want to make a nice, friendly, accessible Fediverse client for Windows.

Then I think about managing customer support, again, on another free product, and my want diminishes greatly.

@TheQuinbox Perhaps you could help contribute to Tweesecake instead? It needs features adding & maybe better to concentrate on one client to make it as good as possible

vol4life8657,

@TheQuinbox You do not think that Tweesecake is not friendly?

noahcarver,

@TheQuinbox I would be happy to pay for such a client.

TheQuinbox,

@noahcarver Duly noted :)

@TheQuinbox Why don't you just ask the TweeseCake team if you can help? That one's pretty good, but lacks certain features. It only probably needs a lil work.

TheQuinbox,

@kev I was on the TC team for a while. That's... quite the tail.

simon,

@TheQuinbox I thought as much; this is my first official confirmation that you're no longer there. How do you imagine an app like that working? I assume you'd want it to interact with more than just Mastodon.
I understand the support angle; you could do freemium and include tech support as part of the premium, but still a headache.

TheQuinbox,

@simon Yeah, after it was made abundantly clear that hurling criticisms and playing he said she said games was far preferable over actually having a productive conversation, I was pretty much done. It was really a straw that broke the camel's back kind of thing, ask me about Quinter's code sometime, but yeah, I've been done for around a year at this point.

I imagine something more than just two lists. Granted, this is what Quinter was, and it was great, but we bumped up against the limitations of it. That's not to say it'll be complicated, but I don't want to constrict myself like TC has so expertly managed to do. Now that I'm thinking about this more, Nugget's approach of a treeview might actually be nice. Have a collapsed communities section, expand it, get something like a dragonscave.space section, expand it, and have local and federated. Have it like this for any community you can add, just like Mona. Also, have a proper profile viewer (ahem Quinter and TC). Don't just throw everything in a god damn text field! How did I ever think that was a good idea?

Jonathan,

@TheQuinbox @simon Would love to see this kind of thing.

@TheQuinbox @simon

In your defense, mixing a web view into a native Windows app in a way that works well with screen readers is messy.

TheQuinbox,

@matt @simon Nods. It wouldn't be, if wx.html2.WebView or whatever would automatically take focus, but it doesn't. I found a way to do it, create a wx.EventDispatcher or whatever that class is called, and perform a left click, but holy ugly hackery.

TheQuinbox,

@matt @simon Ah, found it! Here's what I did to remedy it. How ugly! self.html = wx.html2.WebView.New(self)
self.focuser = wx.UIActionSimulator()
self.html.Bind(wx.EVT_SET_FOCUS, self.OnSetFocus)
def OnSetFocus(self, event):
wx.CallAfter(self.focuser.MouseMove, self.html.GetScreenPosition())
wx.CallAfter(self.focuser.MouseClick)
event.Skip()

jyarbrough,

@TheQuinbox Yeah, I wouldn't want to think about that. Of course, I don't have near the dev knowledge needed to pull that off.

TheQuinbox,

@jyarbrough I have the dev knowledge for it, but I'm too much of an asshole to do technical support for free without getting snarky.

jyarbrough,

@TheQuinbox I can get that. I did tech support for an ISP before I lost my sight. Paying customers were bad enough sometimes.

BTyson,

@TheQuinbox You could charge for it.

TheQuinbox,

@BTyson Nope, still have a little over 4 months until I can legally do that. And even then, we hit issues with paypal e-mail addresses and garbage.
