Hello, @admin. I'm seriously considering migrating from mas.to to c.im. Can you confirm what the character limit at c.im is? Looking to join an instance which lets me use way more than 500 characters. I have big words to say. 😄

Rahm Emmanuel has to be some kind of Democrat Fixer, he knows things about people, and he has all the shame of a Religious Conservative caught in a gay meth prostitute scandal.

@RickiTarr I'm not up with the times. What did he do this time?

@aardrian Thank goodness. Thank you for always speaking out, and thank you also for pointing out folks like @juliemoynat and @koena who still need our support.

To our entire community of users:

We agree completely - accessibility is an essential human right, no question!

We deeply apologize...

Accessibility has always been a first-order priority for us. It's important as well to not see such essential feature sets as binary - an either "have" or "don't have", and our intention today was to receive feedback on whether we're currently excelling in these areas or if you, our dear users, feel we can do even better.

noahcarver,

@nextcloud Thank you, #Nextcloud, for the apology and reevaluation of how your messaging was interpreted by the #disabled community. Thank you also for the willingness to improve public communication so that insensitive polls/posts like this are not published in future. Finally, thank you for defining the #accessibility standards which Nextcloud follows. #Blind #BlindMasto #BlindMastodon #BlindFedi #LowVision #VisuallyImpaired #Disability #DisabledMastodon #DisabledFedi #a11y @mastoblind @main

noahcarver,

@Looping @nextcloud Their pole might’ve been insensitive, but the accessibility standards which they state they are following, as well as the audit which is currently being undertaken, suggest that the organization is taking accessibility seriously. For now, I am willing to allow them the benefit of the doubt in the Hope That their post is not indicative of wider cultural issues within the organization.

noahcarver,

@Looping @nextcloud I mean, let’s be real here. I’m a lot more distrustful of Nextcloud now than I was yesterday. We’ll have to see what happens next and if they’ve learned from this experience. With that being said, I’m happy to give them the chance to do so And publicly extend an olive branch especially given my direct public rebuttal to their original poll.

noahcarver,

@nextcloud @mastoblind @main PS: I sincerely hope that this was not simply a crisis-management communication as some have suggested. Talk is cheap, and actions speak louder than words. You have already heard from #A11y professionals like @juliemoynat and the wider #disabled community; please take their (and our) advice and actually follow through on better #accessibility. #Blind #BlindMasto #BlindMastodon #BlindFedi #LowVision #VisuallyImpaired #Disability #DisabledMastodon #DisabledFedi

People are mad at mixcloud because they put accessibility in their poll of feature asks. Which I get, accessibility shouldn't be an ask, it should be an expectation. But on the other hand, we're ahead in the pole! By a lot. Shouldn't we take the w?

noahcarver,

@objectinspace @acarson Had Nextcloud done this poll on any other platform, accessibility would not have won. As proof of this, go look at the same pole which was ran on their X account. I will not apologize for calling out their post as utterly insensitive, ignorant, and ablest, and quite frankly, no one else should, either. The fact that accessibility won out is not the point.

Il faut voter pour que prenne en compte l'accessibilité, mais quoi ???

Alors, déjà, je vous remercie d'aller voter "Global accessibility" dans le sondage du message ci-dessous. 👇

https://mastodon.xyz/@nextcloud/111687153259198670

noahcarver,

@Looping @juliemoynat Utterly pathetic, I know. Thankful that the folks interacting on Mastodon value accessibility much more than the folks over on X.

Can someone please explain why a few Fedi users put some variation of "My posts are licensed CC..." in their bios?

noahcarver, to fediverse

Okay, #Fediverse explorers with way more knowledge than I. What, exactly, are the differences between #Mastodon, #Firefish, and #Iceshrimp? I'm interested in what Iceshrimp has to offer, but I'm not finding a good explanation of the differences between the three forks. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

@SteveFaulkner Well, this was certainly unexpected. I am deeply interested in thoughts from @podcast should @JonathanMosen be interested in taking this on especially given the interview which he conducted with Userway co-founder Lionel Wolberger some months ago.

I've been wondering about this, if anyone knows. Are JAWS scripts interpreted, or compiled, or what? What black magic language are they even using? Why aren't they using something mainstream? I think it'd be interesting to do some sort of security analysis of the software. There must be lots of vulnerabilities in JAWS…

noahcarver,

@yatil @objectinspace @remixman That is incorrect. JAWS scripts are written by many individuals and corporations, and the scripting language is openly documented by Freedom Scientific / Vispero.

noahcarver,

@yatil @objectinspace @remixman Absolutely. Here is a jump-off point for some JAWS documentation. Under the heading "JAWS Scripting Resources," you can find several items of interest.

https://support.freedomscientific.com/Products/Blindness/JawsDocumentation

noahcarver,

@yatil @objectinspace @remixman As for individuals who write JAWS scripts, I personally recommend contacting Doug Lee. Doug is well-known for writing oodles of scripts for free to benefit the community. All of his work is high quality. He also does paid work, and one can find him at:

https://dlee.org/

https://dlee.org/contact/

I also know that TPGI, who are part of Vispero and are a sister-company of Freedom Scientific, do JAWS scripting:

https://www.tpgi.com/

https://www.tpgi.com/accessibility-solutions/jaws-scripting/

noahcarver,

@yatil @objectinspace @remixman entirely understood--TPGI's connection with Freedom Scientific is unavoidable. Another place to find support with JAWS script writing (or possibly to advertise that one is looking to hire scripters) is via the JAWSScripts mailing list, which can be found at:

https://www.freelists.org/list/jawsscripts

noahcarver,

@yatil @objectinspace @remixman Finally, another person who you might want to reach out to should you be looking for more info on who does JAWS scripting is @JonathanMosen. He previously worked for Freedom Scientific, however is a giant in the world of accessibility/assistive technology and is extremely well-connected. While I don't mean to put him on the spot, he may have better information as to who (outside of Vispero) writes JAWS scripts today.

noahcarver, to telegram

Hello, users. If you use for or and have noticed that spelling errors are not reported by JAWS in these applications, please feel free to contact @freedomscientific and request a fix. I reported this bug over a year and 9 months ago after discovering it in Unigram, and it has since appeared in the WhatsApp UWP application for which Freedom Scientific has written JAWS scripts. @mastoblind

noahcarver,

@freedomscientific @mastoblind To be clear, JAWS is configured to report spelling errors by default. Additionally, #NVDASR and Narrator correctly report spelling errors in these applications. Therefore, I am certain that this is a bug in JAWS itself. #Blind #VisuallyImpaired #LowVision #BlindMasto #BlindMastodon #BlindFedi

noahcarver,

@freedomscientific @mastoblind Finally, even if you're not impacted by this bug, please feel free to boost this thread to ensure greater visibility throughout the community. I--and many other users--would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Got a Corsair headset earlier today. More specifically the HS-80. I'm extremely happy with it, minus this really annoying light that the microphone shows constantly when it's unmuted, because it's right in my peripheral vision and annoys the hell out of me. Figured I'd try to install their software to fix it. So first, the installer is completely inoperable. Had to get through the whole thing with OCR. After that, once the software is installed and while it's running, no other time, it changes the beeps on the headset to prerecorded speech prompts with a delay of around 250 MS. And, the software's totally inaccessible too! When clicking on the system tray icon to exit it, I had to OCR the menu, because I couldn't even arrow through it. Also, it decided "oh, you have custom listen to this device settings set? Well fuck you, I'm resetting them. Oh also you have to reboot your computer after installing this software or your headset won't work, even though it worked before you installed our garbage software. Also also, we're going to put it in startup without asking, because double fuck you."

noahcarver,

@TheQuinbox @AiraVI It's really a crying shame. I absolutely love this headset. It's built well, fits like a glove, is quite comfortable for extensive long listening/work/gaming sessions, and gets outstanding batterie life provided you turn off all the RGB nonsense (which means wrestling with iCUE). iCUE i hot garbage on a paper plate which should not exist in its current form.

Good evening, #JAWS users. Have a question. How does one configure #Windows11 such that the list of system tray icons is always fully expanded? Thanks in advance for any help. @freedomscientific #JAWSForWindows #JAWS2024 #Blind #VisuallyImpaired #LowVision #BlindMasto #BlindMastodon #BlindFedi @mastoblind @main

noahcarver,

@jamminjerry @freedomscientific @mastoblind They were excellent instructions. Thanks.

noahcarver,

@fastfinge Yep... sad but true. I have to essentially fool around with taskbar settings every time a new icon appears. UGH.
