Calling it now: As global warming become more and more obvious and undeniable, climate deniers are going to pivot hard towards geoengineering. Really stupid, really poorly thought out geoengineering that serves mainly as an excuse to embezzle money and cause problems. -_-

@Angle A Crack In The World scenario. "If we just set off nukes in these underwater areas it'll save the world!" Or some equally insane idea.

@Angle they’re already at it with ‘hydrogen for home heating (so their pipe networks don’t become stranded assets)’, ‘carbon capture and storage’ and ‘Sustainable Air Fuel’ alongside the biggest scam of all ‘Net Zero’. All designed to prolong our addiction to filthy fossil fuels because corps can’t control the supply of sunshine and wind and therefore can’t create scarcity in order to price gouge their customers.

There can be no OPEC of renewables… period.

@Angle
That's the reason I was so annoyed by the book "Termination Shock". Everyone was fawning over how brave it was to tackle climate change in such a realistic way but all I could see was another tech bro, hand in hand with old money and government, doing irresponsible geo-engineering and claiming to save the world. 🤢

@Angle I mean, I've heard a few ideas already... Carbon capture, seeding the atmosphere with reflective particles, space mirrors... Carbon capture is the closest to actually happening, but it's not invested in as a solution so much as a new, greenwashed way to produce "net zero" oil for continued consumption

@Angle Sounds like you have just watched . 🙃

My guess at an initial vector would be Musk, or some other techbro, and then getting picked up by Trump and spread everywhere from there. Next couple of years, probably.

@Angle yes, it seems inevitable at this point

@Angle Oooh. I gamed out this scenario several years ago.

X-Man will discover the idea of sunshades and solar reflectors.

He's got rockets and this is an excuse to do lots of launches. And maybe build a factory on the moon.

And as pivots go it's pretty good, especially because he's going to use the diverted sunlight to melt asteroids.

The dude has a huge savior complex. And after the current adventure ends he will be looking to pick up cred any way he can.
