Suddenly realized I don’t have business cards anymore. Do people use business cards? Should I have them? Can I just print ones that say “werd.io” in big letters? What do you do?

@ben i used a QR code vcard generator. Then i saved the QR code to my phone in my Photos app. instead of handing someone a business card, i have them scan it with their phone. It’ll add my info into their contacts app automagically.

@ben I love paper business cards because they are a helpful, ad hoc reminder in a way that adding contact information cannot. E.g. I check my pockets before doing laundry, I find the card and go "oh right! I wanted to email them, I shall do so now"

Also the tactile element helps with memory a bit in the way that pulling info into the silicon brain does not in my experience, even if I don't stumble on the card later.

BostonAbrams,

@awoodsnet @ben Yeah, but scanning is awkward and slow (at least among journalists or among my older demographic). I’ve gone back to paper business cards.

Cassandra,

@ben
If you see people face to face and you want to give them your contact info, you need business cards. Unless they are all so tech savvy that they can collect your info by scanning a QRS code on your phone, in which case have that.

@ben
Well, I designed a set of 12, each using a different photograph of mine in the background. Back in 2013. Printed one of each just to see how they looked. I've never used one.
Then today, one of our new neighbors paid a visit. She's a Realtor™. She gave us her business card.
So I guess it depends on what your business is, and how you meet and interact with others.

carlmjohnson,

@ben I have a rubber stamp with a QR code

@ben I'm devoted to business cards, possibly a side effect of working in graphic design for many years. When I run out it's fun to change up the design for the next batch. I got some printed up last year. I love having them.

I used Vistaprint, but also like Moo.

specwill,

@ben I just avoid having any business

shyduroff,

@ben … carry blanks … write as little or as much as appropriately at the moment …

@ben I made some personal "calling cards" at the local office big box store with my name / personal address that come in handy every once and awhile. Though I just realized it has my old twitter account on it. whomp whomp. I have a hard to spell last name and it helps people get my spelling and address right....
