They're a little like a post, but ephimeral (typically available for 24 hours before they disappear). A lot of ppl use them to give a bit of a live feed into what they're doing, or for sperratic thoughts/images they don't want to be permanently posted on their feed

I think that's fairly analagous! Though importantly it's like microblogging that removes your posts after a day or so.

They're typically less formal and more off the cuff than what someone would want to permanently add to their feed.
