Ooh! No specific recommendations here: I learned on my grandma’s 1980s machine, which is still the one I use all the time, so that shows you how up to date with current offering I am! However, my firm recommendation is to track down and visit an actual sewing machine shop - the sort where they have them all on display to try out, with someone who really knows their stuff to help.
