What do we do with the #freeRangeKids who aren't technically ready to be left unattended? They want to play with friends for an hour or so after school and I don't really need to be here for that but they don't want to walk home on their own.
@robgalanakis@ebooksyearn some cheap phone or tablet with wifi-only and no phone plan would probably suffice but I'm 😒 with the idea of sending them out with a whole android device (besides the chinese spyware... how do I get an actually open-source android device?)
@enobacon@ebooksyearn right, this is why I ended up with the phone. I looked at burning a device myself and remembered how much work it all is. It's also a question of reliability. So far no scummy feels from the company and I'm highly attuned and skeptical of all VC and PE. I mean in time I'm sure it'll get bad or expensive but ok for now
@ebooksyearn@robgalanakis So you're just trying to get them to plan ahead or are they keeping you posted what they're up to? Mine are 9 and 12 so we're headed there soon.
@cyronimose they know the way but not quite 10 yet, and traffic through the neighborhood is 🙄 thanks to our govt's choice to buy every high school kid a car and let them drive however they want.
