As long as we're talking about toilet-going war stories, should I tell about the time as a kid in Afghanistan when one of my pet tortoises fell into the pit beneath our outhouse?
After Afghanistan was India, then Malaysia (until this last June).
I honestly haven't thought about the tortoises too much, but back when we left Afghanistan (where my parents did humanitarian aid work), I did name a couple of stuffed animals after them.
@benjaminhollon probably was just something that you took for granted. It is too cold for tortoise anywhere I've lived, so it sounds fantastic to me :-)

One was given to me, one was found by me. :)
I'd feel sorry for them for taking them from their normal habitat and sticking them in the same small yard as a dog, but that dog was lazy and they ate enough veggies and strawberries to make up for it.
How cold is too cold for tortoises? Not gonna lie, Afghanistan was the coldest place I've ever lived, but then I spent the last ten years in either tropics or near-tropics.
@benjaminhollon Colorado gets cold. -20c during the winter (sometimes). Reptiles struggle to live here. I've seen turtles and newts as a kid. Never seen them again, though.

Yes, a tropical rainforest island that's world-renowned for its food. With a cost of living so cheap we'd feed our family for about ~$10 per meal.
Man, that was the life. I'm totally moving back there after uni if I can.

Heh, they need to be able to handle it there. ;)
But it is a tiny island, which helps. And it's crawling with thirsty plants. 2/3 of the island is rainforest, and actually one of the world's smallest national parks.

Again, it probably depends where you live. Lubbock, Texas, where I stayed for a little while? Least scary place ever. College Station (what I've seen of it, living on campus) is pretty good, too.

Yeah, it's been a crazy rise! This seems to happen whenever I switch social platforms, inevitably, but in this case it's followers rather than me foundingn and running a group that gains a ton of members. It's been fun! And a great case study as a COMM major. ;)
Coding has always been a means of supporting my other hobbies, for me. I'll be doing COMM with a focus on Professional Writing, and I use coding to support my writing and make it something unique. I was doing some computational analysis of my Mastodon followers earlier tonight; roughly half are from here on Fosstodon, with an average of 2.3 per other instance.

Depends where you are. LA is definitely my least favorite part, personally. (I was born in Bakersfield, and though I've never lived in Cali I have visited frequently.)
I'd say the Sequoia National Park was amazing (it was) but we did get smoked out by a forest fire which was not fun. ;)
