Currently 5 days into a stay in a holiday cottage in the lakes, and I've made a discovery. When @revk was interviewed by BBC about @aaisp 's experiment in ADSL over wet string, he said that there was "...no commercial potential that we are aware of.". This appears to be completly inacurate, as BT seem to be selling this technology to the good people of Cumbria.
@penguin42@revk@aaisp direct. I've no idea how it keeps working so stably but so slowly, although Its only like this 25% of the time, the other 75% its fine (or at least, as fine as 1.5Mb down, 256Kb up ever is)
@localzuk@iMeddles@revk@aaisp The last few holiday cottages I've stayed in I found O2's 4G was usually better than the cottages broadband. (I have a ZTE 5G router I usually pack)
One of them could have gotten FTTP, and I suspect their VDSL was OK, but their Wi-Fi router was in the Conservatory, and they were using an awful repeater, so it was useless in the room I actually wanted to use it in.
I do also have the possiblity of using Voda or EE if I swap the sim.
