@dgar oh, and he defeats all the people of color until the last seasons when they insert a Nazi due to criticism that it is a white supremacist fantasy. Just saying.
@dgar So true! I think this part of the plotline wasn't addressed as it should've been. Any of us could become Walter White, if there's no other option. Shame on the USA.
@dgar bottom line, it could not have been set in the UK because it would be over in 10 minutes.
Walter off for scans @ then treatment - zero cost.
(a uk cancer paitent)
@dgar Walter was also given the option of working as a scientist for a family friend, which would have included a health plan with a cancer ryder. Walter decided against this because... he makes bad decisions for plot reasons?
@dgar Minus the part where a friend offered him a job and money to pay for the treatment. But he was like, “nah Imma keep teaching and cook on the side.”
@QueenValhalla@dgar Not at all. That's the point. Walter feels severe male status anxiety (and shuts down his wife when she suggests she go back into the workforce). Meeting those people who are offering to fund his treatment, because he knew them in grad school and did some of the work that they would later get rich for, just makes his status anxiety worse; he ends up lying to them that his insurance agreed to fund the treatment.
@QueenValhalla@dgar He did, but then they got worse. Remember, in the first episode he doesn't even think he can recover - he's saying he's making meth to support his family after he dies. This is not someone who just does what he needs to do to afford health care.
@dgar The fact you have reality shows about people who keep running around with their medical problems until they get to gigantic proportions is actually more of a hint. Dr pimplepopper and al these morbid obesity shows for example. Medical negligence packed as gross entertainment.
@DesRoin@dgar They seem to do fine now. Zach had his cancer treatment costs covered by insurance for the most part, and he seems to have recovered, but if it had been Tarn, he would have had to pay it out of his pockets entirely, which he couldn't have afforded. That scary thought lead to the decision to move from crowdfunding to actually selling the game.
