    zenfant,

@Mehrad I think the standard answer is that when converting from one lossy format to another, you should expect a big loss in quality.

    Also:

“Xiph.Org has stated that the use of Vorbis should be deprecated in favor of the Opus codec” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vorbis

In a similar way I converted all my audio belongings to , just for the sake of open source :-)

One line of code. Some time.
    No drawbacks.

    zenfant,

@kunde_x @Mehrad Well, if you delete the original mp3’s, the audio quality of your transcoded collection will then certainly be at most equal to what it was (and almost certainly lower). I would call this a drawback.

  • zenfant,

@Mehrad @kunde_x Now I’m wondering if DVDs can possibly be cheaper or safer for storing data than HDDs...

I agree, do not convert lossy to lossy. What I try to do as often as I can: rip to FLAC on my workstation, convert to Ogg for copying to mobile. Leave MP3s alone if that is all you have.
