People try so hard to make small talk still but how can sane people discuss the weather and not get to “CAN WE JUST SWITCH TO NUCLEAR POWER AND SAVE THE PLANET ALREADY? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I DON’T WANT TO ALSO LIVE THROUGH A CLIMATE COLLAPSE!” within like three sentences?
This is why my fear of small talk with strangers just keeps getting worse.
That and how often people find out I live in Washington state and want to tell me about how bad they hear crime is in Seattle. Even though they are wrong, and I live 5+ hrs from there.
@ryanhoulihan I’d invite you over for coffee and a chat, but I suspect it would be two minutes of awkward “Hi, nice to meet you” followed by an hour of venting about transmission lines; Suvs and Pickup Trucks Are Too Big, a thesis; and why is hydro permitting still such a mess.
And whatever you’d want to rant about besides nuclear.
@ryanhoulihan The human mind is naturally not serious enough to think about bigger picture situations related to daily life in the middle of chit chat unless they are extremely educated on topics over time.
@ryanhoulihan Arizona (where I live) could pretty much eliminate carbon emissions in our electrical grid just by doubling our nuclear capacity and it’s hard not to just walk around saying that to everyone all the time.
@ryanhoulihan Do you realise that the corporations who have enough financial clout to build nuclear power stations are the same ones that want to sell all the oil they've invested in first?
@ryanhoulihan I didn'tmean it to sound that way, but I do now. IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED FAIRLY ONLINE YOU SHOULD PROBABLY NOT START BY SETTING A BAD EXAMOLE AND SHOUTING AT RANDOM STRANGERS YOURSELF!!
