Has any user within reach has used the groundhog package? I tested it and it was very hard to get it going (I had to run R with R --vainilla) and then it botched my user library. Perhaps I did something very wrong.

@eliocamp I’ve not used {groundhog} but do use {capsule} from @milesmcbain every day at work. It’s ver easy to get working and pretty easy to get back to a set of packages that were working. https://github.com/MilesMcBain/capsule

@danwwilson @milesmcbain What I'm looking is for a solution to coming up to an old project that doesn't have a lockfile and I want to recreate the possible environment used at that point in time. I don't think that lockfile-based solutions could work for that, can they?

haven't tested, but does this help?
renv::checkout(date = "2023-02-08") (described here: https://rstudio.github.io/renv/news/index.html#new-features-1-0-0)

@urswilke @danwwilson @milesmcbain Ah, yes, that sounds like it could work!
