Well, what do you know... I just (like two minutes ago) received a new scam message via Booking.com's app.

@gcluley Just sent a link to your article to a (supposed) home owner who messaged me via Booking in a very similar fashion. No link but a request to transfer money within two days. Presumably, that message is legit and merely a way to save on payment processing fees. But there is no real way of distinguishing it from a scam, so my response is: you either collect money via Booking or in cash at the property, I’m not sending it to some unverified bank account.

It's a huge problem. Seeing so many people suffer from this - and the confusion between legit messages from hotels and those from scammers is real.

BookingDotCom isn't handling this well at all..

@gcluley Yeah, I need that non-refundable booking canceled ASAP so that I can book something else. From the look of it, this is going to be some “fun,” and there doesn’t seem to be any simple way to report this issue to Booking.

@gcluley It's not exactly Booking.com's fault. It's their partners, the hotels, who keep getting compromised and their Booking.com accounts are used to send these e-mails.

@gcluley received more or less the same a few weeks ago. booking won't answer my questions. (guess I really need to catch up with those smashing security episodes...)
