Small introduction after my move here...

I'm and old metal head that likes hip-hop too and got into kpop and jpop in the last few years. Yeah, it's strange. And I even like classic rock, soul and blues too.

When I'm not maintaining my music collection I probably play video games on PS5 and Switch. Most of the time RPGs or action adventures. Right now it's NieR Replicant.

Professionally I only do boring office work, nothing to talk about :)

I hate fascists, racists, homophobes, TERFs...

og,

@sariash Love metal and hip hop and I just got into k-pop and k-hip hop too

@og I was so surprised to learn how diverse Kpop is. Bands with dark concepts and stories spanning over multiple songs and even their own lore for the band. Some of it has much more in common with metal than most realize, I think. It's a perfect fit for a metalhead to get into kpop! :)

og,

@sariash K-Pop is actually really cool to listen to and the hip hop side of it is dope af

og,

@sariash What metal bands do you listen to?

sariash,
@sariash@social.tchncs.de avatar

@og Because I'm lazy, I just did a post about my plexamp top 25 from june 2023 here:

og,

@sariash Lol 😂 cool thanks

@og I actually listen to everything I like, but at the moment it's more melodic death metal, death/doom, black metal. Otherwise also a lot of symphonic metal, power metal ... there are always phases in which certain genres predominate

og,

@sariash Dope any doom metal bands you could recommend?

sariash,
@sariash@social.tchncs.de avatar

@og I'm no expert on that genre. But I really enjoy Shores of Null.

Give their album The Loss of Beatuy a try, here at bandcamp:

og,

@sariash Thanks so much

    @cordillera When covid came up in 2020, I started watching a lot of music reactions on youtube, especially from metal reactors. Some started with reactions to Japanese rock/metal bands, that's how I got to know Band-Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila. One day some Reactors I followed started reacting to Dreamcatcher - Scream... the rest is history. From that day on I dived deeper and deeper into Korean and Japanese music.

    @sariash omg YouTube was my gateway too. Kpop is also huge in the Philippines, I swear there's a kpop concert every week, so it's easier to talk to normal people about it. I was chilling in my darkwave/post-punk corner and then Mamamoo and Dreamcatcher infiltrated my brain and I'm afraid there is no turning back.

    @cordillera Yes, Mamamoo was number two that hooked me. And on top of the good music, I really fell in love with DC and Mamamoo watching vlogs, variety shows and stuff like that. Their charms are unresistable!

    @sariash I never got into watching the variety stuff, but the M/Vs, outfits, and charisma were amazing. I never cared too much for pop music before but the concepts, experimentation, and the whole package really grabbed me.

    I saw Mamamoo in February and goddamn they're even better in person, I don't know how it's possible. All their voices are unreal. And WHEEIN COVERING SOLAR'S HONEY IS EVERYTHING.

    @cordillera Exactly. I was never into pop music before (with some exceptions, like Billie Eilish). And still don't like most western pop music. Of course I don't like all kpop either though.

    @sariash Oh yeah I deffo don't know anything about western pop music. Tiktok doesn't exist to me lol. My top 10 listened to artists on last.fm doesn't have a single western pop artist on it.

    @sariash What metal bands would you recommend me (from any language or country)? I'm a massive Dreamcatcher fan and love their Japanese singles. I've enjoyed watching Lacuna Coil live, and loved several albums from Therion and Ghost.

    @cordillera Ever heard of Nightwish?

    Nightwish - The Poet and the Pendulum on youtube via invidious:

    @sariash Oh yeah I loved Noise. They came here to Manila so I was considering going but ended up skipping out on it. Had to save up for Dreamcatcher lol. Would love more recs on where to start w/ them.

    @cordillera You mean Nightwish? hmm I started listening to them in 2004. It was easy to start. Now they had three different singers over the years. I like the current one, Floor Jansen, the most, but that might be different for everyone.

    So I recommend the first album Floor sang, it's called 'Endless Forms Most Beautiful'. It has the epic 24 minute song 'Greatest Show on Earth' on it, which is basically one of the greatest songs on earth! 🥰
