"...the SUV represents instead a uniform kind of selfishness, a collective indifference to community to which, alas, we are all more or less prone." h/t @TheWarOnCars

@enobacon @TheWarOnCars I have never, for one split second, thought SUVs made any sense. This is going as far back as the early 80s. However, haven't people gotten much more bulky in the last 40 years?

@tmstreet

@TheWarOnCars @enobacon i've worked with a few farmers who like SUVs over trucks for herding caddle they keep something very beat up around for that, often not even road legal since it isn't used for anything else and probably can't get out of 4WD low.

@tmstreet induced demand is like that

"one of the reasons he became involved in the group was that a good friend of his was very badly injured after being hit by [sic] a large car."

It was a traffic Engineer that hit him, with a large car, and help from elected officials, lawmakers, maybe there was a driver involved...

I won't say much against flattening SUVs' tires, I mean social pressure and accountability take many forms, but the air needs to be let out of the roadbuilding authorities and their coddling of oversized vehicles.
