@ClimateMigration
I thought the function of this account was to promote the climate relevant fediverse accounts and theit interesting posts, but it is currently just publishing big amounts of posts if twitter.
Did I misunderstood the purpose of your account? I ask it to know whether I should continue following yiu or not.

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@kjr

Thanks for the question. If you click on the Following below the profile it lists which accounts this account follows. On a daily basis posts are scanned for relevance to Climate issues and selected to be boosted. There are a few reflector accounts in the list, but most are native Mastodon/Fediverse. Today IEA (which is indeed a Twitter bot) had a lot of posts which were deemed relevant. It is not usually the case. If you do not want to see any particular account you can also block it.

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@kjr

This link should work: https://mastodon.world/@ClimateMigration/following

Offhand, it looks like the IEA account is the only twitter bot, so blocking that should do the trick.

Just FYI, the reason these accounts are followed is that they are chosen from accounts that others on the list follow. That is, climate scientists here generally also follow these accounts.

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@kjr Another way to use this account is to just use the Following list to choose which climate scientists you might want to follow directly. Also, the boosts from this account can be 30 or more posts per day, so people usually like to create their own list for it so as not to overwhelm their feed. Explained further here: https://mastodon.world/@ClimateMigration/111135548701661475

@kjr

If you like astronomy check out @AstroMigration ... No bots there! (joke)

We are in a golden era of astronomy, and it can be quite uplifting after wading through all the climate news. Some of it gets pretty technical though, so muting and blocking and lists is a good approach to tailor it to your preferences.

Hello! I’m a professor of planetary science based at Harvard, interested in rocky planet evolution, , habitability, and related topics.

Finally decided to get a social media account and Mastodon seemed like a logical choice right now. Looking forward to figuring out what this site (or sites??) is all about…

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@rdword

Hello and welcome. You are now being followed by this curated account which will boost selected posts of yours daily.

It might seem kind of odd or amusing, to folks outside of California, that a non-severe thunderstorm approaching a major city is a newsworthy event. But across much of coastal California, especially in the north, lightning is in most years a notably uncommon event! https://t.co/zWYJSr6lFk

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@weatherwest

Northern Californians are terrified of lightning in late summer and early fall before the rain starts. In August of 2020, with the area dry as a bone, a tropical depression remnant strayed north and a night of heavy "dry" lightning strikes hit the mountains of the wine country north of San Francisco. The result was something called with LNU Lightning complex, also the Walbridge Fire, which burned for months until the rain finally came in early October.

To respond en masse to all the Mastodon folks who have been sending me angry messages regarding my presence here versus on other social media platforms, I'll say only this: that sure isn't a great way to convince a person to spend more time here. I'm baffled by it, and very disappointed.

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@weatherwest Thank you for posting your content whether directly or cross-posting. To explain some of the reaction, many people here feel very strongly that open social media is vital to our future and have a very hard time understanding why people who seem to align with socially conscious principles would continue to support corporate platforms with their content. Clearly there is a decision to be made about reach, but please consider continuing to help us build this open platform.

weatherwest, to random
@weatherwest@mastodon.social avatar

Recently, I've been trying to scale up on Blue S K Y as thus far, in my professional opinion, that platform seems most likely to allow me to continue the broad spectrum of climate

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@weatherwest Sorry that you feel like another surveillance capitalist site is the best option for you. By contributing your content to Mastodon you are helping to build open social media which seems much more in line with your principles.

Semi-regular reminder that I continue to evaluate the social media landscape regarding the best place to reach both targeted science/policy/journalist audiences as well as mass audiences (i.e., the wider world!). You can always find me on https://t.co/cyPnvKJoMl... [1/n]

ClimateMigration,

@sarae Climate Migration does not take a hard line about cross-posting. The content is consistent with the mission of this curated account. Hopefully, it will be useful and informative to followers. Perhaps @weatherwest will engage more with this community in the future.

Recommendation

Some feedback regarding this curated account has been that some users do not like how the practice of boosting so many posts floods their home feed. Here is a suggestion...

Now you can remove the contents of any List from your home feed. Create a list for this topic, add this account, and go to settings (slider bar icon at top right) and toggle "Hide these posts from home". Your home feed will no longer receive boosted posts, but you can still get them by viewing the list.

ClimateMigration,
@ClimateMigration@mastodon.world avatar

@SomeAnoTooter Well yes. If you don't want to see the posts boosted by this account you should not follow it. What is being discussed is a way to still be able to receive these posts, but to have it be exclusively under a list, rather than in your home feed.

Apologies. @ClimateMigration has been on a bit of a hiatus. Went on a trip and forgot to bring the the computer with access to the account. Back now, and will recommence daily updates. Thank you for your patience and continued use of this this curated account.

Would love to get some feedback on the utility of this effort. Do you find it useful? Do you have any suggestions for how it could be improved?

Thanks for the feedback. Here's a possible wat to mitigate this. You can now remove the contents of a List from your home feed. Create a new list, add the curated account, and go to settings (slider bar icon at top right) and toggle "Hide these posts from home". Your home feed will no longer receive boosted posts from the curated account, but you can still view them by clicking on the list.

I don't know where they're going to put a trillion trees. But if we view CO₂ removal as a time machine, a trillion trees is a time machine that will take us back 225 days in a year, once we wait a couple of decades for the trees to mature (and assuming that they don't burn down; they won’t, right?).
