writing hive mind: i need a distinctive hobby for a character. He's a 199 year old vampire defined by chaotic boy energy and the fact that he really will live forever. He plays video games with his older brother, loves cock and balls innuendo, and has flung himself out a window and down a flight of stairs so far. They all ride mountain bikes and have a band but don't like practicing.
I'm thinking he should knit.
Any ideas?

@emmaaum He could totally crochet his found family little small versions of themselves or the rest of the family. ;)

@consumablejoy he could. he's not going to :)

@emmaaum Ha ah in my head now there is some character who is the opposite of this chaotic dude energy camp who is super precise and is the crochet person making realistic replicas of people and game characters and is constantly feeling nuts about the other dude’s imprecise sweaters

@consumablejoy they all get along too well for that :)

@emmaaum @sheepnik Knitting and quilting obviously. They are skills that can be refined for years and some projects take seemingly forever. And based on my poll earlier this year some people have WIPs that are literally multiple lifetimes old.

@emmaaum @sheepnik Also I love the fact most people would not associate knitting and quilting with chaotic boy energy but the vampire could be like… this is what gives me zen vibes

@consumablejoy I forgot to mention that he lives in Thailand. Not exactly a climate conducive to quilting :) Besides, he'd never get around to finishing one.

But knitting on big needles, cause they go quickly and he likes finishing, will make for large airy pieces. LOTS of large airy enormous jumpers. Every one he knows has several now.

This one sitting still though, that's chaotic :)

@emmaaum @sheepnik Or like little awesome amigurumi animals in fantastical shapes and guises. Like amigurumi griffins and sphinxes and characters from the video games they play. Like Halo guy and Mario but in amigurumi. And all his friends have them. You don’t have to worry about wearing a huge jumper in Thailand if you make toys. And kit bags. And stuff like that.

@consumablejoy oh those are so cute. maybe someone else can make them.

they do wear jumpers in Thailand. not thick woolen proper ones though. imagine something inbetween a shaker knit sweater from big needles and a fishing net. that's what my boy will make. with mismatched sleeves that are over six inches too long.

@emmaaum @sheepnik I love the idea of some character making the video game characters lol. Like crocheted Mario and mushrooms and the Halo guy just existing in some kind of world together.

Love the sweater idea. And even totally mismatched socks. Which I sometimes make on purpose.

@consumablejoy another reply suggested he makes only one thing and it's something like baggy jumpers and sleeves six inches too long. which fits his personality so well :)

his brother might paper mache video game and manga characters. i'll have to ask him later.
