I can see why Israel rejected the final offer. The release of murderers from prison and the consequent solidification of Hamas's leadership are bad enough, but since when is the winning side in a defensive war expected to pay reparations to rebuild the aggressor without even a regime change? Imagine if WWII had ended with the Allies pouring all that money into Berlin without any alliance and propping up Donitz as Fuehrer.

This is all especially disturbing, when you consider that literally the only consideration offered by Hamas was the release of civilian hostages seized in peacetime. No reparations to the hostages or to the families of the civilians murdered on October 7th, no dismantling of military infrastructure--not even a commitment for Hamas to cease its own military operations (missile attacks on civilian populations) while Israel withdraws. All they're prepared to commit to is to stop holding some of their kidnapping victims. That's one helluva ransom demand.

@wolfsbruder Hamas' "offer" was basically Set us up to be more successful the next time we go against you and we'll give you some bodies and who knows maybe some of them will still be alive. And if you say no, we're going to tell the world you're at fault.

It's probably just as well that I got too caught up in playing with graphics and layout and writing an inviting watch party post on dreamwidth rather than starting to watch the creepy AF Enigma because i got a real life jump scare when the schizophrenic neighbour looked in my window.

He'd been using the wrong key to try to open his door. He should not be at home. Hopefully someone will be along to take him back to hospital in a few days.

If screaming “apartheid” has an impact in delegitimising the very basis of Israel’s existence, accusing it of genocide is a still more powerful weapon. So it has, likewise, been repeated until it has now become accepted as fact – such that it can be asserted without contradiction.

Neither apartheid nor genocide have been proven, but as we've seen with far too many things like especially with climate science denial repeating a lie over and over can make people believe anything sadly.

@GreenFire Earlier today one of those gave me a 'definition' of antisemitism which is so limited and ahistorical it wouldn't apply to the Nazis.
This person is very certain they know exactly what antisemitism is.
It's like words have no meaning anymore, only very intense feelings.

@claralistensprechen3rd An Austrian Jew-hater coined the phrase in the 19th century to refer specifically to hatred of Jews and recast it in what was then shiny new pseudo-science about race.
It's never referred to any of the other peoples who speak Semitic languages.
As for indigeneity, Jews are those whose ancestors didn't assimilate to Arab culture & religion when the caliphate moved up from the Arabian peninsula.

Someone who is very certain they understand anti-Semitism just gave me a definition of antisemitism which wouldn't encompass the Nazis.
Seriously.

There's no way this person grasps the historical complexities of antisemitism, antisemitic tropes or the currently lauded variants. Hardly anyone does.

@sheepnik yes, i especially like the bee collection. good price for it too. will pick up some more next year but this a very workable start.
the plan is for thyme varieties and roman chamomile as ground cover with rosemary varieties etc for height. a trial thyme and rosemary (49p from Asda last summer) are doing well in the space. there's a lot of sand in the soil from the layer under the pavement so drainage is good.

@glitchontwitch Two and a half years ago I was rehoused from a flat to a shitty wee pensioner row house whose only amenity is some outdoor space. I wish I'd found a hobby that's more fun and less work but at least it's outdoors 🙃 Which is also a downside many days given the weather.

@sheepchase Don't even think of ordering loun 😂 It probably is illegal. Anyway, the closer you can buy plants to home the better, both for fewer transport emissions and because the plants are more likely to be adapted to your weather.
Planting for bees is a whole thing. Have a look, I bet there's info on this in Japan.

there are two mental health things going on which affect each other but have different causes.
one is the seeming return of something i thought was gone. i don't know why.
the other is understanding my current reaction to two lifelong problems more clearly, feeling like i should try again to fix them but also knowing both are immensely costly high-odds gambles (emotional as well as physical energy) which have never worked out before.
i don't have the resilience to buffer more failure.

@sheepchase They're outwardly separate and I'm not foolish enough to take on both at the same time.
Given how badly effort and stress (of any kind) affect me and how I haven't been able to return to previous baseline after that kind of damage since 2015 (before that it was 2-3 years), I could gamble on one, and only one, now and hope against hope that not only is significant progress made but that I can manage to sustain it when I'm fucked up by the damage of getting there.
