I think I am going to need to clip Fricassee's wings. He's refusing to stay put and he's too good of a flyer.
I can probably do a very minimal clip, he's not that great of a flyer, and I just need to keep him INSIDE HIS RUN. So can probably get by with a mild cut on 2-4 or so flight feathers on each side.
A well done clip is symmetrical. Both wings will be clipped in the same way.
It involves the shortening of the primary flight feathers. You don't touch the secondary flight feathers.
You can usually get away with only a minimal shortening and with not cutting all of the primary flight feathers, depending on the degree of reduction in lift ability required. Heavier birds also require less

Napoleon also isn't staying put, but he's a little guy and I wouldn't be comfortable with any real reduction in his ability to fly. He needs to be able to get away from the other roosters, not just predators.
So no wing clip for him. Will need to find other solutions. I think just giving him some high perches in the run will work: if he can flee upward, he won't need to flee out, and that may be enough since he seems just to want to get away while Fricassee wants to go visit the hens.
