I was not able to help much with : only a video caption check for the "Literate Documentation with Emacs and Org Mode" by Mike Hamrick (@spudlyo)

https://emacsconf.org/2023/talks/doc/

(Excellent talk by the way)

Japan is not the best location to attend the conference. Time-zone wise, the conference is between 11pm and 7am on Saturday and Sunday this week-end. But we'll be able to watch all the talks later !

And thank you @sachac for the amazing organization! 😃

spudlyo,

@jchelary Nice work! You did a nice job fixing the mistakes I saw the auto-captioning software make earlier, I also was pleased to see you added quotation marks and other nice clarifications to the captions, thanks! At over 40 minutes that must have been quite a lot of work.

@spudlyo you had 99% of the contents on gitlab so I used that as reference (by the way, there are some glitches in the original document) and it made things way easier. @sachac added some decorations to the text she sent last night too.

I was familiar with most of the contents since I wrote something similar (but way less "informed") as a memo to myself on my blog, and I also use org-mode as a daily writing tool. But mixing the two and adding the "literate" part was really nice.

(shameless plug for users who want to build Emacs from scratch:

I don't have a habit to work on subtitles. So, every time I need to, the learning curve of dedicated software ( in this case) gets the best of me and I eventually end up using a text editor and mvp. I saw somewhere that there was a .el mode for emacs (not on though) to do just that. I guess I need to give that one a try.

@jchelary ... Plus also you could watch all the uploaded talks now. Perks of volunteering... <laugh>

@jchelary I think that was already a great help. And you also helped acknowledge speakers and review submissions, the speed of which impressed some people. :) Thanks, JC!

@sachac Haha ! That's one of the perks of being in this weird time-zone 😃

As for watching the talks beforehand, I'll sure do, some I'm really interested in!

It was nice to have this early submission system this year. I really hope the organization was less stressful that last year thanks to that.

I'm trying to imagine how an conference could look like and how to technically organize it with free software, so helping with was really a great source of inspiration.

@jchelary Being originally from GMT+8 myself, I have great sympathy for conference timezone envy. I'd love it if we could get things to the point of being able to run a conference based on the other side of the world. Let's see if the crontab technique will work this year. If so, then we can run the sessions mostly on autopilot... :)
