If you're annoyed with the constant breaking changes in OpenVPN and don't need the complexity anyway but still want iOS integration? Try out wireguard. I just switched from OpenVPN to wireguard for remotely accessing my home automation stuff. It took less than 5 minutes and worked out of the box and on the first try. It's a treat.

moehrenfeld,

@nblr It’s working fantastic. And since AVM implemented it in FRITZ!Box it is a matter of minutes to set up at home.

@moehrenfeld Ah, do they use the QR feature? The app asked me if i want to import a config via QR-code. What a neat idea.

moehrenfeld,

@nblr Yes they do. But you can also integrate with a existing wireguard for p2p, it’s really versatile.

@nblr Yes, definitely! I have been using it for my home stuff for a year now and it is really painless. What I like the most is that setting it up is almost as simple as adding an ssh key to your allowed keys file. No need to perform dark magic to summon the x509 gods. 😅

@uncanny_static Indeed! I‘ve used OpenVPN with PSKs and without X.509 until now, because it was pretty versatile and configurable. But that’s out of the window now.

@nblr the MacOS app is strangely lacking. Only one connection at a time, while this is not an issue anywhere reist, including iOS...

@nblr@chaos.social avatar

@danimo Oh! Ok. That's a strange restriction. I found the minimal design very useful. As said... less than 5 minutes with a config from scratch.

@nblr if it works on first try, yes. If not: may $deity have mercy on your soul. Also: the Go version can establish multiple connections.

@nblr es gibt Leute die bis jetzt noch kein Wireguard benutzt haben? 😯

Leistungsmäßig einfach x-mal besser und bei schlechtem Internet oder disconnects kein ewiger Verbindungsaufbau mehr 😎

@nblr@chaos.social avatar

@grumpy_copi Ich hab wg seit Jahren auf >1gbit/s point-to-point links in Verwendung, aber für den Hausgebrauch wegen Flexibilität (TCP/UDP, port, etc) und für Kleinkrams OpenVPN.

franskeijer,

@nblr Ich nutze WireGuard über tailscale
(Bin zu faul für die Konfiguration) 🫣
